We're looking for a Tools Programmer to work in the Stellaris team. The core of the role is creating and supporting tools that will be used throughout development to improve workflows and save people time.

The successful candidate will be able to design, implement and debug features within the tools they are working on, working across multiple games and platforms simultaneously. They are also able to effectively communicate with the central tools team regarding potential missing core functionality.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Collaborating with the game team to understand and analyze user requirements and provide documentation. Continuously follow up on usability and make improvements.
  • Develop in-house tools to improve workflows and streamline processes to assist autonomy.
  • Work together and synchronize your work with the central tech team.
  • Augmenting the design of game features by supporting the team with tools and technologies.

Required skills:

  • C++ programming - Writing readable, safe and performant code. Utilizing design patterns and software engineering.
  • Collaborative mindset - An empathetic individual who can collaborate with a multi-discipline team, empowering artists and exchanging ideas/technical plans with the design team.
  • Accountable by taking ownership - Someone with the ability and drive to own the systems and features, from beginning to end.
  • Communication skills - Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate your work to both technical and non-technical people to help them overcome issues. This also shines through in thinking about UI/UX in the tools

Ideal skills:

  • Experience in tools programming - A proven ability to design, document, implement and maintain tools that are used in collaboration with development teams inside a large code base.
  • Experience in debugging and data optimization - Extensive experience with code and data optimization and an expert at debugging complex stability issues.
  • Experience in the games industry workflows, either as a generalist programmer or as a tools programmer. Knowledge of game asset tooling.

As a person you are positive, dedicated, responsible, and love a challenge. An interest in strategy games, and in particular the grand strategy games from Paradox, will be considered a plus.
