Creative Director and Lead Graphic Designer for a newly formed holding company that will own the sports and entertainment assets of Washington, DC based entrepreneur Mark Ein including the Citi Open Tennis Tournament, a combined WTA International and ATP 500 professional tennis tournament, the Washington Kastles of World Team Tennis (WTT), the winningest team in WTT history, the Washington Justice, the newly-launched esports team representing Washington, DC, in the Overwatch League, and the Washington City Paper. The mission of our organization is to unite and inspire our region, bring together great communities of sports fans in the Washington area and around the globe, and build an iconic portfolio of sports and entertainment brands.

This position is a core part of the Company’s marketing team responsible for developing and designing all advertising and marketing materials, promotional collateral, signage, merchandise and digital assets for all three sports properties. Reports to the VP of Marketing.

Desired Experience

Candidate must have 7-10 years of graphic design experience in a professional, high volume setting, with expert-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially in (but not limited to) Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Candidate is expected to not only lead overall creative direction for brand but also directly act as the lead graphic designer for the organization. Candidate should also be highly detail oriented; able to proof their own work as well as act as quality control/editor for the work of freelancers, seasonal staff and other full-time employees. In addition, the Candidate should be able handle multiple tasks with seasonal and daily deadlines. Imperative for Candidate to accept and apply constructive criticism and feedback with multiple rounds of edits required by executive management and ownership of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement overall artistic tone for each sport property drawing upon audience, trends and existing art and brand assets
  • Translate ideas (via conversation or written instruction) into design concepts that engage and inspire the audience, maintaining campaign and brand continuity and interactive usability
  • Create and develop a full range of graphics and campaigns across all sports properties, including (but not limited to):
  • Marketing collateral for promotional distribution
  • Print and digital campaigns for media buys
  • Merchandise design
  • On-site Signage (digital and stationary)
  • Act as lead graphics designer for organization, “rolling up sleeves” and directly producing full range of graphics for the organization.
  • Oversee, manage and edit creative produced by other members of the organization’s marketing team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of typography and fonts, and ability to build text to complement images in multiple styles
  • Other tasks as assigned by the VP of Marketing, as well as the executive management and ownership of the organization.

Position is full-time, year-round. Significant weekend and evening hours will also be required, including attendance at some/all Citi Open, Washington Kastles, Washington Justice and Washington City Paper games/matches/events. Compensation is dependent on experience and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. A standard benefits package and paid vacation time will be part of the compensation.
