Facebook Reality Labs is dedicated to the research and development required to bring virtual and augmented reality to billions of people around the world. At the Pittsburgh lab, we aspire to a vision of social VR and AR, where people are able to interact with each other across distances in a way that is indistinguishable from in-person interactions.The ideal candidate is a web backend developer. You are comfortable developing backend services, CLIs, database schemas, and the tools to support them. You are familiar how to define interfaces and libraries used by other developers. Occasionally you can create prototypical Web UIs. You understand contemporary software design and engineering practices and you write high quality, robust code. You are motivated by building the tools and infrastructure needed to rapidly define, train, and iterate on new types of machine learning models. You thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, working closely with researchers and data annotators to determine requirements, improve quality, and speed up execution.At Facebook Reality Labs Pittsburgh, you will join a world-class team exploring optics, haptics, tracking, displays, computer vision, user experience, audio, and perceptual psychology.   • Develop backend software used by annotators to label images and developers who use the resulting datasets
  • Automate training of machine learning models on many different types of data
  • Collaborate with researchers to determine what data to collect and annotate
  • Support researchers in training new models and automating workflows
  • Collaborate with users to understand usability issues and develop solutions
  • Collect usage metrics and develop features to increase developer/research experience
  • Develop tests and processes to ensure software stability and correctness
  • Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field
  • 5+ years experience with Python/Jupyter software development
  • 3+ years web development experience (Flask/Django/ExpressJS or similar)
  • 1+ years C++ experience, including Modern C++ features and techniques
  • Experience with SQL databases
  • Experience with scripting languages
  • Proven track record of shipping software
  • Experience with software development practices such as source control, code reviews, unit testing, and debugging
  • Experience with Linux and command line utilities
  • Collaborator with communication experience across teams of varying knowledge of components
  • Experience with NumPy/OpenCV/PIL
  • Experience with SQLAlchemy or similar
  • Experience with machine learning (PyTorch, TensorFlow or similar)
  • Comfort with 3D math and linear algebra
  • Experience with RPC frameworks (Thrift or similar)
  • Experience developing and managing large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience with PHP or Hack
  • Experience with ReactJS, JavaScript, Flow, or TypeScript
