NUEL is the largest university esports community and tournament organiser in the UK and Ireland, with over 10,000 students from 100 universities taking part in tournaments and social gaming events throughout the year.

Every season we run live broadcasts of our tournaments, aimed at both showcasing university esports to a wider audience as well as giving upcoming broadcast talent the opportunity to grow and develop on the job.

We are currently looking for observers for the following upcoming tournaments:

  • CS:GO
  • VALORANT
  • Women and Non-Binary VALORANT
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • Rocket League
  • Overwatch

Our Spring broadcasts will start on 15th February, and Varsity streams will run for 8 weeks. The weekly schedule is as follows:

  • Monday - Rocket League (14th March - 28th March) and Overwatch (Monday 4th April only)
  • Tuesday - CS:GO Varsity (15th February - 10th April) and W+NB VALORANT (1st March - 15th March)
  • Wednesday - League of Legends Varsity and R6 Siege Varsity (both 16th February - 9/10th April)
  • Thursday - VALORANT Varsity (17th February - 9/10th April)
  • Friday - W+NB League of Legends (4th March - 18th March)

You will work with the Marketing and Product teams and report to the Broadcast Manager plus the relevant Product Manager for that game. Our main method of communication is Discord and you will be expected to stay in regular contact. All observers are required to stream their feed to a media server (SRT or RTMP).

Our ideal candidate would be passionate about creating a high quality viewing experience for our community and have a deep understanding of the spectator mode in their chosen game. You’ll need to be a great team player and an excellent communicator to work alongside casters, the producer, the product manager and admins. Prior experience is not necessary - but having buckets of enthusiasm is!

This is an entry/junior-level, contractor position. All of our broadcasts are done remotely. You will be compensated a set amount per broadcast.

Responsibilities

  • Follow action as the main observer
    • The observer controls the in-game "camera"
  • Stream your clean feed to our SRT/RTMP relay
  • Attend soundcheck 45 minutes before you go live
    • Test the quality and stability of your feed, check that the casters and producer are receiving it correctly
  • Work with product manager and admins to get into lobby with teams
  • Keep the game and broadcast in sync by communicating with players and crew

Requirements

  • Experience observing (at any level)
  • Basic knowledge of using streaming software (OBS)
  • In-depth knowledge of spectator mode in chosen game
  • Technical/computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Work well in a team
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure
  • Able to stream at 1080p60, 6000kbps to an SRT/RTMP relay
