Niantic seeks a 3D Animator with expertise in creating animations of characters that convey emotion and movement. Niantic is a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team of software developers and creative professionals based in San Francisco, Seattle and Tokyo. You will be responsible for research, design and execution of animations, using Maya, Unity, and other computer graphics tools to help merge the virtual with the real world.

Responsibilities

  • Using a high degree of choreographic judgement, produce animations that fit within the style and pacing of Niantic’s current projects and experimental AR platform initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Art Director and cross functional pod of artists, engineers and product managers to create fun and appealing gameplay animations and/or cinematic events.
  • Brainstorm ideas and create rapid prototypes.
  • Troubleshoot and communicate technical animation issues.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience preferred.
  • Portfolio of work showcasing examples of gameplay and/or interactive animations. Work may also include previs, animation tests, and marketing poses.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, body mechanics and character acting.
  • Understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, texture and form.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Plus If…

  • Technical experience with rigs and animation interfaces.
  • Experience with AR production.
  • Experience creating animations of environment objects and effects.
