ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This role will participate in both the operation and innovation of esports broadcasts from the perspective of the technical director (TD). Part of the workload will be spent on set, operating as a Technical Director (TD), and occasionally a TD/Director for smaller scale productions. This will include building the switcher sets for multiple shows of varying formats and also operating switching systems as a TD for the live broadcasts. This will include physical switchers in a studio or fly pack environment, and also remote cloud based switching systems. The other part of the workload will be spent in an office environment innovating new switcher solutions and features, as well as consulting other departments on switcher needs, uses, and limitations...

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate as a Technical Director (TD) and sometimes a TD / Director in a live broadcast environment.
  • Handle and lead the switcher up-keep and system updates for the production switchers in our studios.
  • Plan and execute innovative show effects and switcher utilizations that are cutting edge and creative.
  • Push the boundaries of what is possible with production switchers in the Esports ecosystem.
  • Plan and build switcher sets for shows in which you will operate and also shows in which project based employees or independent contractors will operate.
  • Work alongside a production team of full-time employees and contractors, to communicate effectively and ensure each broadcast is as successful and impactful as possible.
  • Research and develop new utilizations and tech integrations that connect to the switcher workflow and production as a whole.
  • Consult other internal departments on the upcoming shows and their switcher needs and allocation.
  • Communicate with the TD’s we hire as project based employees and contractors to ensure they are set up for success on their respective shows.
  • Work with Engineering to ensure the switcher is integrated correctly with the rest of the broadcast tech.
  • Stay up to date on all switcher related news in the industry.
  • Serve as the company expert for TD and switcher related questions and concerns.
  • Train teammates and project based employees on switcher workflows, utilizations, and best practices.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Experience:
    • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working in key positions on a live production line.
    • Must have experience building and switching on some or all of the following production switchers (Grass Valley Kayenne, ROSS Acuity, ROSS Carbonite, Newtek Tricaster, Black Magic ATEM). This includes changing and fixing inputs, outputs, auxes, ME’s, DVE’s, GFX keys, busmaps, custom controls, networking, and multiviewers)
  • Education: High School Graduate or GED. Film and/or Broadcast Degree preferred but not essential if the right amount of experience exists.
  • Familiarity with…
    • Broadcast communications systems and workflows
    • Production line demeanor and jargon
    • Switcher basics and general utilization (Inputs, Outputs, Auxes, ME’s, DVE’s, GFX Keys, Busmaps, Custom Controls, Networking, and Multiviewers)
    • Broadcast show flow and anatomy
    • Email and other cloud based resource tools (google docs, google sheets, etc)
    • Live broadcast team roles (Replay Op, GFX Op, Producer, Talent, etc)
