The Role

As the Head of Data Science, you’ll join the Management Team of our fast-growing data business, and take on responsibility for data science, analytics and insights across our company.

Reporting to our Co-Founder/Chief Product Officer, you’ll be the hands-on leader of a small team of data scientists and engineers, and will ensure that we are making the most of the data we have, as well as finding new sources and uses for data.

Primarily focused on extending our product feature set through the introduction of improved analytical methods and techniques, you’ll also be responsible for ensuring statistical rigor and integrity in everything we do. You’ll introduce machine learning and other AI-based techniques to improve the quality, quantity and value of the insights and analysis we offer to clients using our platform.

In parallel, you’ll be comfortable contributing to our external marketing and PR activities, through a combination of focused blog posts, participation in press opportunities, and production of regular industry-wide reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Working with our development team in Santa Monica, your primary focus will be developing algorithms for user behavior analytics including big data and graph databases
  • Combining social data, streaming habits, purchase data and other data sets to build out rich models of esports and other audiences, including predictive models of fan behaviors
  • Analyzing and improving existing data analysis platform and capabilities, handling over 1TB per day
  • Working across the business to drive our platform capabilities to be the best in the industry

Requirements

  • Masters degree in either Statistics, Mathematics or Physics
  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a Statistician, Lead Data Analyst or similar
  • Experience with data analysis packages
  • Highly-driven, independent self-starter who can approach either data-first or problem-first
  • Ability to communicate analytical methods to implementation team, and to explain insights and conclusions to a broader audience of clients and public possessing little to no statistical background
  • Experience working within a team of data scientists or statisticians
  • Eager to research, read and write extensively on statistical methods as the apply to audience analytics

Bonus points for

  • PhD in a related subject
  • Solid knowledge of graph theory and understanding of math and principles behind classification/regression/clustering/dimensionality/regularization
  • Knowledge of principles and applications of social physics
  • Knowledge/Experience with big data tools (Spark, Hadoop, HBase)
  • Experience with Google/AWS/Azure platforms (FanAI is Google Cloud-based)
