ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

The New Zealand Esports Federation is the representative body and National Sporting Organisation for New Zealand Esports. In 2020, Esports was recognised as a Sport in New Zealand following a five-year campaign by industry stakeholders. The NZESF is now seeking an entrepreneurial-minded Chief Executive to support our mission to lead, support and grow esports in New Zealand.

The purpose of the Federation is to:

  • promote participation in esports in New Zealand
  • advocate for the recognition of esports as an indoor sport in New Zealand and inclusion in the Olympics.
  • promote the social, health and educational benefits of esports and video games for youth and the wider community
  • promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle for esports participants
  • act as a regulatory body for esports events and competitions in New Zealand
  • carry out any activity or support any person or organisation that may contribute to the above objects
  • make regulations or bylaws to advance the attainment of any of the above objects
  • do any act or thing incidental or conducive to the attainment of any of the above objects

Applicants must be aware of the key differences between esports and traditional sports and the balancing of the NZESF industry role when navigating the traditional sports governance framework within New Zealand.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting into the Board, you will lead Esports New Zealand into an exciting period of growth by identifying policy and implementing innovative new products and services. You will be responsible for implementing the NZESF’’s Strategic vision and objectives which will form a key driver of the commercial strategy to develop new revenue streams. You will identify policy gaps and marshall subject matter experts and community leaders to co-develop practical industry guidelines. You will play a critical role in building sustainable relationships with key stakeholders including government entities, commercial partners, members, peer organisations and the community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Take responsibility for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Strategic Plan
  • Review existing and develop new policies in conjunction with the Board and with stakeholders
  • Development of new products, programs and strategies to meet the organisation's goals
  • Prepare annual budgets and financial reports for presentation to the Board Direct, support, engage and develop staff and volunteers (ensuring effective management of human resources, including recruitment, selection, training and development, KPIs and performance management)
  • Establish effective communication processes with staff, Board, associations, elite teams and clubs, strategic partners, government entities and sponsors
  • Develop an appropriate media, marketing and PR plan to position the NZESF as a Tier One sporting body
  • Monitor funding opportunities and oversee the submission of applications for government funding, commercial sponsorship, media distributorships and licencing arrangements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Commitment to the mission of the NZESF and affinity to esports
  • More than 5 years senior management experience in a related field
  • Proven experience in making and following through on β€œhard call decisions”
  • Strength and ability to traverse a complex and diverse range of views and challenges
  • Understanding of governance and ability to work effectively with a Board and the members
  • Effective advocacy skills and Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of community leaders, commercial entities, government officials, volunteers and stakeholders, particularly in a federated structure
  • Strong financial skills and the ability to develop, oversee and direct appropriate commercial/financial decisions and outcomes
  • Strong commercial background with proven revenue generator experience and expertise
  • Demonstrated high level strategic and analytical skills
  • Experience in running reasonably sized group reporting to a board or CEO with full P&L responsibility
  • Excellent communication skills and extensive experience working with media
  • A Degree in Arts, Business Administration or Commerce is preferred
