WHO WE ARE

We are ArenaNet, a studio making online worlds infused with innovation, handcrafted excellence, and creative passion. Our passion is broadly shared; gamers made Guild Wars 2 the fastest selling MMO game in the West with more than 3 million copies sold in its first 9 months, and players and press have consistently called it one of the best MMOs of all time.

Our studio is built on foundations of excellence with a focus on community. We constantly innovate, unlocking the true potential of online role-playing with game-changing titles like Guild Wars 2 and beyond. The status quo is not good enough for our dedicated worldwide community of players, which is why we question the de facto industry conventions and demand more from ourselves as developers.

WHO YOU ARE

We are looking for a highly experienced game designer with significant experience designing game systems, game content, animation, movement and combat systems. The design manager will begin by working closely with the game director and other design leadership to design significant new game systems, content systems, movement systems, and combat systems. They will partner with engineers to implement prototypes of these systems and rapidly iterate to find the fun. They will work closely with engineers, animators, and tech artists to develop and refine a modern animation system to compliment the movement and combat systems designed. Once the core game systems have been prototyped and proven out, the will oversee hiring and training game designers who will work in those systems to produce and build out the content for a game. The design manager will be responsible for determining which designs to hire for roles, for ensuring the implementation work of the designers who reports in to them is consistent, will oversee their long term growth and development of those game designers, and will be responsible for training them on the design constraints, innovations, and the tools to build within the systems designed early in the product.

The design manager will be responsible for ensuring the designers who report to them work closely with other development disciplines on the product and to help everyone understand though it's harder to design for the players of our game than for ourselves, it’s how great games are made.
