We are seeking a Tax Director to join a growing Mythical Accounting & Finance team. As a first member of the Mythical Tax team, you will play a key role in planning and implementing Mythical’s global tax strategy to support rapid growth.

The ideal candidate has a deep passion for digital assets and blockchain technology and leading the company through a range of new tax implications.

You will be interacting with engineering, product, fraud & player security, business development, HR, legal, accounting, and finance to provide tax-efficient solutions to business needs.

You will work closely with a VP Finance and be responsible for all global tax reporting and compliance. This position is also a key leader on finance and accounting projects for senior management. These projects may include M&A integration and tax structuring, tax planning, due diligence & related activities, capital offerings, finance and accounting process improvement projects, financial system development and implementation, financial reporting, and all company tax compliance initiatives.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement comprehensive tax solutions to support business objectives and international operations
  • Partner with a Controller, Legal, and various business teams to execute complex transactions
  • Support business expansion into new markets and lines of business
  • Research and document technical tax positions
  • Identify, research, document, and implement opportunities seeking cash tax and effective tax rate efficiencies
  • Draft, review, and revise legal and other documents from a tax perspective
  • Monitor and determine impact of global tax-related regulatory developments
  • Manage outside professional tax advisor relationships and ensure proper local tax compliance and implementation of tax planning initiatives
  • Provide technical tax analysis and other assistance with provision and compliance on an as-needed basis
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings, including sales tax and VAT remittances either through external vendors/partners or filing directly
  • Evaluate sales tax and VAT API tools. The company currently uses TaxJar.
  • Monitor nexus and determine taxability for each transaction or line of business in compliance of each jurisdiction
  • Lead structuring, negotiating, drafting, and post-acquisition integration with respect to US and non-US mergers and acquisitions
  • Unravel tax implications in the digital assets and blockchain technology areas
  • Strategic partnering with the business to minimize global income tax and withholding exposures
  • Partner with a controller to manage global bank account openings, services maintenance, and related documentation (including KYC requirements) and compliance filings at the initial stage of the international office expansion
  • Responsible for transfer pricing and management fee calculations.
  • Ensure that the Company’s tax accounting processes, documentation, and related systems are in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley's internal control requirements
  • Drive relationships with stakeholders, including all top management, cross-functional teams, business units, and external parties (statutory auditors and external tax advisors)

What We’re Looking For

  • Comprehensive understanding of core US and non-US international tax concepts
  • Experience working in Big 4 public accounting firm, corporate tax department, law firm, or combination thereof
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of tax experience
  • Master’s degree in taxation, PA, and/or JD preferred
  • Strong technical and research skills
  • Sophisticated depth of communication, analytical, and time management skills
  • Strong writing skills and ability to communicate complex tax concepts to non-tax colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate with peers, subordinates, and executive management.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently from a remote work environment
  • Maintain high attention to detail and strict deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a highly motivated team
  • Understanding or deep passion for gaming, NFT’s, blockchain distributed ledger, and other next-generation technologies
