Job Description

Moving Dimensions is looking to contract talented artists to create concept art for a zone in an upcoming game title.

Assignment Description:

Moving Dimensions is outsourcing to talented artists with experience in stylized environment concept art, for an upcoming game title. The title is a comedic adventure. So, humor should be present in the environment.

The world targeted by this assignment is Catopia, a cat’s haven. Created by Mr Whiskerkins who has enslaved humans (using mind-control devices) and forced them to create a world on a planet handpicked by Mr Whiskerkins.

The game is a sidescroller. Environment is 3D while movement is 2D:

We need concept art for what Catopia would look like in the game to help our artists actualize the zone. This means the concept art needs to have medium level of details. Enough to inspire props and environment.

The concept art we’re looking for is for world imagery, not single props. A concept should contain an area of the world with the props in it. It doesn’t need to be highly detailed. Just enough to see what props and assets that section of the world would contain.

Catopia Planet Features

Catopia is made of floating small islands. The sizes of the islands vary, from islands that can hold multiple houses / objects to islands that can only hold a bench and a few trees. The sky is magically blue and the air is fresh. Nature is closely intertwined with everything in Catopia.

Examples of things that would exist in a cat haven. Think of what a cat’s ideal planet / heaven would look like. Here are some ideas from a brainstorming session that we thought would be worth writing down:

  • Scratching posts
  • Cat forts
  • Little cat food carts and milk to go
  • Milk vending machines
  • Cat knitting strings
  • Catnip pharmacy / drug store
  • dog litter box
  • Boxes to sit in (cat hotels?)
  • Cat statues (Historical figures in the creation of catopia)
  • Tuna pond
  • A cat theater (it's a simple aquarium box with an entrance fee. Cat sitting watching fish swim)
  • Cat cardio track (laser chasing)
  • Tether ball cardio
  • Mice, and mice farms (farm name is after fat paw)
  • A lot of sleeping cats
  • Humans are the sanitary workers (picking up garbage, doing city maintenance)
  • Pop culture (movies etc) posters, but replace with cat titles / actors

Skills & Requirements

  • Portfolio that demonstrates skills in concept art.
  • The ability to work remotely.
  • Responsiveness, and the ability to communicate well.

Additional Information

  • Working remotely is an option

About the Company

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, in a magical zone called Lexington, two young college students met at the University of Kentucky. One was leveling up Computer Science and the other one Music, and when classes were not in session, they were gaming. Fast forward 8 years to October 2014, both of our protagonists have gained enough experience in their respective fields, and decided to start a guild called Moving Dimensions. With a lifetime of gaming knowledge under their belts, they set out on their first quest: the collaborative project, Abo Khashem. The quest proved to be a bit higher level than the description initially led on, but the adventurers powered on all the same. After securing some gold income and partying up with other talented individuals in the realm, our dynamic duo was well-equipped for the challenge at hand. Another 3 years of grinding, maxing out their skills, about 600 rounds of testing, and countless deaths, our heroes have bettered themselves through the fulfilling experience and the quest is finally complete. Abo Khashem was a best seller in the Middle East for 2018 on PlayStation, which paved the way for more adventures!
