Monumental is looking for an Engineering Director to work on our Crowfall MMO. We need a senior technical leader with proven experience leading teams of engineers to architect, design, build, maintain, and operate global, distributed, high traffic technology platforms.

As the Engineering Director, you will be responsible for setting the technical vision and building and managing a team of highly effective engineers that can deliver on that vision. You will also need to work with artists, game designers, and engineers to deliver high quality updates in demanding timeframes.

To be successful you will need to fully support the existing product delivery-focused teams, manage necessary change, direct any necessary refactoring of existing software, and own the product’s technology path. You must be able to make difficult calls regarding code refactoring, design decisions, and when/how to tackle technical debt.

About this Role

As the Engineering Director, you will…

  • Oversee the technical foundation for the Crowfall game and service. You have overall ownership of the operation, its reliability, and availability of mission critical production systems
  • Lead the architectural design of a wide range of systems including game front and backend, content production pipelines, and toolchains
  • Manage the performance of the programming team, mentoring, developing, and leading their development efforts, while fostering the sharing of knowledge across the team with a strong focus on quality
  • Understand the “big picture” of game development to get ahead of potential problems
  • Collaborate with production and other team leads for milestone and sprint planning meetings
  • Create a culture of predictable high quality code delivery by creating strong coding/review standards and maintaining Technical Design Documents
  • Coordinate with the production team to prioritize programming tasks and create deliverable engineering schedules
  • Work with Art, Design, and other teams to translate features and tools requests into executable technical specifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or its equivalent
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in game, server or platform engineering, preferably with strong experience building and supporting highly available distributed systems, including at least 5 years of management experience
  • Shipped multiple AAA online titles as a Senior or Lead Engineer on PC/console platforms
  • Experienced with Unity, C#,.Net Core/Framework, SQL, Cloud
  • High level of personal and professional accountability and excellent cross-disciplinary communications experience between engineering, production, design, art, and QA resulting in achievement of common team goals and objectives
  • Experience designing, implementing, operating, and supporting large distributed systems along with expertise in continuous development and deployments of large-scale systems
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, demonstrable experience managing, coaching, and mentoring engineers or other technical developers
  • Production-minded and used to using practical problem solving to deliver with quality under time and resource constraints, including the ability to meet changing demands and to adapt to frequently changing priorities
  • Passion for software quality with strong technical and project management skills
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with project management and bug tracking systems, tools, and processes
  • Fluency in written and spoken English essential, other languages a plus
