For our Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) lab, we are seeking exceptional Senior Researcher candidates in the area of Reinforcement Learning. The successful applicant is expected to develop a program of research in novel reinforcement learning approaches, with a focus on applications in video games and other real-world applications. This is an exceptional opportunity to drive ambitious research while collaborating with a diverse team to push for novel applications of reinforcement learning in gaming and beyond.

Responsibilities
- Develop and drive an ambitious, high-impact, research agenda in reinforcement learning.
- Collaborate to develop and test out new ideas within existing or new collaborations within the group and with others.
- Write research code to test new approaches or develop novel theoretical and practical insights.
- Prepare technical papers and presentations.
Qualifications
Required
- PhD in reinforcement learning, game AI, or a related area, or equivalent experience.
- An established research program demonstrated by journal and conference publications.
- Strong understanding of state-of-the-art reinforcement learning approaches.
- Hands-on experience in implementing and empirically evaluating reinforcement learning, deep learning, and/or game AI/MCTS approaches.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Preferred
- Experience in solving deep research challenges relevant to practical applications in gaming and other application areas.
- Demonstrable ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
