Introduction:

We are looking for a Principal 3D Environment Artist to join Mediatonic.

Mediatonic is looking for an experienced, humble artist that will enjoy creating weird and wonderful worlds with us! We’re assembling a world-class team to build the next breakthrough IP to come out of Mediatonic and Epic Games.

Mediatonic is the game developer behind Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and a new member of the Epic Games family. We take pride in crafting original titles that bring people together. Our quest is to create joyful experiences that are open to all by investing in the ideas, technologies, and people that can bring our vision to life.

We are looking for a Principal Environment Artist to help create the vision of an exciting new IP from pre-production through to release. Working closely with the Art Lead, they will create inspirational, stylised work, acting as an evangelist to the vision and mentoring the 3D environment team.

Responsibilities

Description:

As Principal 3D Environment Artist you are a proven world-class practitioner of your craft with a comprehensive portfolio showing a range of examples on several released titles. You are responsible for creating the most exemplary artwork and lifting the entire discipline’s creative ability by leading the way. We are looking for a candidate that can set standards, bring the team’s attention to best practices, and ensure quality is consistently high.

You will assist Production and the Project Leads with planning; predicting future problems and highlighting support needed for success.

You are an ambassador for your craft and are able to work closely with the Lead and Studio AD as well as the wider studio.

Details:

  • Demonstrate a mastery of the creative process: The successful candidate will show a passion for creative solutions and demonstrate the technical experience to find answers to development challenges.
  • Have a mastery of industry standard 3D software; experience with a range of options, and ability to assess what software will benefit a specific pipeline or project.
  • Own and drive pipelines, re-use, planning and optimisations: It would be an advantage to the candidate if they had experience in the designing/building of modular systems for environment creation, as well as having previously worked in Unreal.
  • Contribute significantly to style guide development and support the vision for the game. Clarify goals, and help others align around them.
  • Be comfortable in coaching their craft discipline technically, such as in tools, techniques and workflow/pipelines
  • Have the ability to evaluate artist skills and help define bespoke training programmes: Ensure the culture is positive and productive and that the team’s skill set is balanced and capable of providing outstanding artwork.

Details:

  • Strong artistic ability to visualize entire levels in detail with minimal concept art and direction
  • Extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine, with strong knowledge of Unity also considered
  • Excellent understanding of art fundamentals – compositions, shape language, color theory
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Maya 2019
  • Understanding the necessity of technical constraints
  • Excellent knowledge of modeling techniques and texture mapping such as:
    • Strong polygonal modeling skills- able to generate clean models efficiently.
    • Knowledge of Substance Designer and Painter as well as Photoshop
  • Bonus Requirement: Good knowledge of lighting tools in Unreal
  • Bonus Requirement: Fundamental Z-Brush skills
  • Version Control, Perforce and GiT
  • Ability to mentor more junior artists
  • Able to take ownership over certain aspects of the game
