Maxis is a leader in creating customizable and detailed simulation games. Our games require complex agent behavior modeling, advanced animation systems and efficient production pipelines. We are looking for engineers with a passion for games and a mindset for research to explore applications of AI/ML in procedural content generation, character animation and agent behavior.

You will report to a Director of Product Development. As a Machine Learning Software Engineer at Maxis, you will

  • Propose and develop novel ML-based solutions in character animation, agent behavior and content generation (Animation/Audio/3D Geo).
  • Design Machine Learning solutions that consider game development requirements:
  • Usable workflows that minimize human intervention
  • Usable workflows that minimize human intervention
  • Low impact runtime complexity
  • Learn by failing fast & failing often. Develop solutions by collecting academic and industry knowledge, rapid prototyping and iterating.
  • Review and keep up-to-date with academic development in the field of Machine Learning (Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ year experience in a hands-on development role in games or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with Machine Learning:
  • 1+ years of experience in the field and a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Tensorflow, PyTorch, NumPy, SciPy or similar.
  • Experience with deep learning and deep reinforcement learning.
  • Experience working in collaborative environments with many-sided roles beyond engineering like design, audio, art and product management.

Pluses

  • Experience developing animation systems or agent behavior systems for games.
  • Experience developing content creation tools for games/film or a related field.
  • Experience with Machine Learning techniques applied in the games domain.
  • Experience with C++.
  • Knowledge of Linear Algebra, Statistics and Mathematical Optimization.
  • Familiarity using a commercial or a proprietary AAA game engine.
