Job Description

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora™ is a first-person, action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment – a Ubisoft studio in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney. Built using the latest iteration of the Snowdrop engine, and developed exclusively for the new generation of consoles and PC, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora brings to life the alluring world of Pandora with all of its beauty and danger in an immersive, open-world experience.

As a Terrain Artist at Massive Entertainment you'll be developing the landscape of Pandora, and help bring to life its bizarre flora & fauna. You'll get to influence the creation of next-gen terrain and environments in Snowdrop for a major IP/AAA project. On a daily basis, you'll collaborate with our World Art, Environment Art, and Tech Art teams. But also receiving Direction from the Art Director and mentorship from your Lead.

What you'll be doing

  • Creating living & breathing terrain environments that are visually stunning as gameplay spaces;
  • Collaborating with terrain/tech art teams, world builders, and designers to ensure artistic consistency
  • Excel at technical and aesthetic quality throughout the production pipeline;
  • Optimize for performance and memory.

Qualifications

What you'll bring

You're passionate about building realistic worlds and technical art tools which you utilize for this purpose. You push what environment art can mean to a game through creative initiatives, and you’re not afraid to take responsibility/ownership for what's needed to make the game better. Your openness and flexibility complements this and enables you to provide insights from all parts of the development into your area of expertise, which makes you a valuable source of ideas and suggestions.

Besides the above we’re looking for someone aligned with our core values and the following skills and experience:

  • A relevant portfolio of artwork (which must include Terrain/Level Art, ideally with a realistic art style);
  • Proven Experience as a Terrain/Environment Artist on at least 1 shipped game project;
  • Understanding of art fundamentals and design (including composition, color theory, and lighting);
  • Knowledge of 3D/texturing packages, and game engines like Unity/Unreal;
  • Solid understanding of the workflows required to create an asset from Blockout to final quality, and optimized for real-time rendering.
