Job Description

The Visual Design Lead is responsible for the aesthetic excellence of Magic Leap’s next generation of augmented reality enterprise software. Our work will influence the future of how business gets doneβ€”amplifying human ability with our wearable technology.

We are looking for a hands-on orchestrator, able to achieve visual excellence by both doing and directing others. This role requires an experienced leader who is ready to elevate our visual design and eager to join an organization exploring the frontier of interaction.

  • Own the graphical β€œlook and feel” for all solutions experiences
  • Develop the visual direction and aesthetic vision for all projects
  • Apply foundational design principles (typography, layout, UI design) to new paradigms in spatial computing
  • Orchestrate but also makeβ€”must have the chops to dig in and do the work yourself
  • Design multi-user interfaces that engage people in both physical and virtual spaces
  • Generate visual/motion studies that communicate spatial and time-based concepts
  • Refine process, pipeline and workflow for visual asset creation and implementation
  • Develop visual assets and UI for prototypes
  • Work closely with high-level professionals in artistic and technical disciplines
  • Develop and own style guides and the project’s art bible
  • Understand and work within Magic Leap hardware constraints
  • Liaise with the platform design team on OS level visual/brand standards
  • Lead and mentor CGI artists, animators and designers while working on multiple simultaneous projects

  • A master craftsperson of visual design
  • Passionate about detail, quality, and the pursuit of visual excellence
  • Fluent in diverse interactive formats ranging from mobile and web applications to immersive interactive surfaces and environments
  • An effective communicator & flexible collaborator
  • Informed about design trends but interested in pushing beyond
  • Technology forward, with an interest in non-traditional interfaces & mixed reality
  • 10+ years experience in interactive visual design or related visual creative field
  • A spectacular portfolio that bridges interactive, motion, and graphic design
  • A proven ability to nurture and grow the skills of designers
  • Strong interpersonal and mediation skills
  • Expert proficiency in a broad array of relevant design programs
  • Graphic Design/Interactive Design (or related) professional degree is preferred

  • Bachelors degreed required
