The Director, Software Engineering is responsible for driving areas of technology strategy, software engineering oversight, process improvement, risk mitigation, budget management, and staffing. This includes providing guidance and direction for our software engineering managers and teams, as well as taking ownership in leading the overall software development for projects and technical deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, management and overall technical direction to our software engineering teams
  • Provide professional development and mentorship to managers and team members
  • Define and apply efficient team structures, continually seeking opportunities to maximize agility and productivity
  • Develop strong relationships with leaders across the company to foster agility, product excellence, and trust
  • Partner with engineering, design, program management, and other internal stakeholders to ensure that functionality is delivered on time, is of high quality, and is aligned with Magic Leap principles and values
  • Communicate early and often the state and status of product specific features, functionality, and progress
  • Present issues, risks, and their business impact in a timely manner with proposed mitigation Actively seek and remove impediments to team success regardless of where they originate
  • Promote a high-performance culture with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

Qualifications

  • 14+ Years engineering background with practical experience and knowledge
  • Experience with simulation and multi-user networked applications
  • 6+ years in a leadership role within a software development organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills to gather requirements from multiple stakeholders
  • Proven experience effectively prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and project objectives
  • Demonstrate ability to write clearly, succinctly, and in a manner that appeals to a wide audience
  • Demonstrate analytical skills and the ability to drive long term strategy
  • Possess a solid business intuition and willingness to embrace new opportunities within rapidly changing landscapes
  • Ability to execute and foster cross-team and cross-functional coordination and collaboration
  • Experience managing both onshore and offshore development teams, internal and external
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree, MBA and/or comparative experience in a related field
