Job Description

What is the challenge for a narrative designer at Ludia?

The Narrative Designer works to make sure every part of the game tells a story. Narrative Design covers a wide range of game elements: from plot and dialogue, to art and UI design, even to the placement and timing of system messages. The Narrative Designer works with the design and art teams to create a story that fits the strengths of the game platform, genre, and mechanics; that represents the brand or intellectual property; and that meets the needs of the intended audience. The Narrative Designer is then responsible for producing and managing all the text in the game over the life of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies plot lines, story arcs and narrative beats that support the game design and/or the underlying IP.
  • Creates story pitches/outlines and documents for internal and external review.
  • Writers/Edits full scripts according to the project needs.
  • Works with Narrative Outsourcers giving them Content/Technical notes and feedback, and ensures the content stays in-brand.
  • Works with the game designer to create a sensible mission structure (objectives and rewards).
  • Works with the programmers to create tools for creating and implementing in-game missions.
  • Creates story arcs, plot outlines and character bibles.
  • Creates objective timeline with the Lead Designer.
  • Works with the Game Design Team to determine how the text/dialogue will be presented in game (ex. with avatars? with emotions? backgrounds? UI design?)
  • Implements scripts & other content in full in the Game Dev tool.
  • Supplies script documents for QA.
  • Reviews and corrects bugs.
  • Evaluates player feedback on tutorial and missions, and adapts quickly to player behaviour.
  • Creates content for updates.

Qualifications

What do you need?

  • Degree in Game Design, Creative Writing, Literature or an equivalent.
  • Four years of validated and relevant experience in creative writing
  • Strong writing skills in English
  • Office Suite literacy

Assets:

  • Experience in any successful game as a writer
  • Experience in screenwriting and/or branching narratives
  • Knowledge in the mechanics and UX/UI of Dating Apps
  • Experience in Game Design and knowledge of its principles
  • An understanding of the freemium model
  • Good communication and organization skills
  • Bilingual English/French (All the content will be written in English)
