LRP Media Group is looking to for a Conference Chair / Editorial Writer to create, curate, and cover the exploding field of scholastic eSports. Middle schools, High schools, and colleges across the country—and around the world—we are moving quickly to create a competitive eSports programs, whose popularity is already rivaling traditional school sports such as football, cheerleading, basketball, and soccer.

Responsibilities

The perfect candidate will be a gaming enthusiast, responsible for the planning and execution of an annual eSports conference as well as developing the eSports track at out FETC and UB Tech Conferences. Our target audience for this coverage includes middle school, high school, and college esports coaches and directors; other school administrators whose roles touch eSports; and vendors who sell esports-related equipment and services. Priority will be alignment with an overall LRP Media Group eSports strategy among all three events and be highly knowledgeable, passionate, about the culture of esports and the games themselves – both current and emerging. It is critical that this individual be an integral part of FETC and UB Tech planning and a regular participant in monthly meetings.

Conference Chair Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate sources and raise your own profile in the field of scholastic esports by attending selected events
  • Recruit volunteers to assist in developing and executing the event
  • Actively solicit individuals to submit RFP (request for proposals) with content that would help contribute to the conference’s success
  • Review and copy-edit all promotional and conference materials
  • Ensuring all speakers effectively deliver content accurately and concisely
  • Contribute to social media accounts
  • Analyze the results of conferences held and develop strategies for subsequent events
  • Work with LRP Media Groups senior conference staff to schedule committee meeting dates, develop agendas and facilitate meetings
  • Communicate regularly with staff and event volunteers and monitor progress of planning (using a timeline) to ensure tasks are completed
  • Hold committee members accountable for their tasks and the overall goals and deliverables for the event
  • Work with senior LRP Media Group staff to manage and adhere to approved budgets, timelines, and marketing deliverables
  • Establish clear committee expectations and define tasks to the volunteers

Editorial Responsibilities:

  • Create and curate content for a national conference
  • Independently develop story ideas into articles for publication in our newsletters and digital publications. The expectation is for 4-5 short posts per week plus 3-4 longer stories per month
  • Solicit and edit contributed content from scholastic eSports experts
  • Publish your stories in our newsletters and on our websites using our WordPress platform
  • Monitor the popularity of your stories on our websites and adjust your coverage accordingly to generate more views

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years as a working journalist – preferably covering sports
  • Strong writing, editing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with online gaming and eSports culture
  • Experience in the development and or management of conferences

Our eSports coverage will be published in LRP’s existing platforms, including District Administration and University Business magazines, and in new newsletters and websites currently under development.
