Primary Functions
- The VP of Engineering is an integral piece of the leadership team, reporting to the CEO, partnering with the VP of Product, and collaborating with the rest of the executive team.
- You should have experience managing large-scale teams and be obsessed with leveraging processes/tools. You will be responsible for managing the entire Second Life development team and ensuring the engineers deliver the product without compromise against tight deadlines.
- You will work in conjunction with the leadership team to jointly develop and vet Linden Lab’s long-term technology strategy.
- You will be responsible for building and growing a highly complex technology infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Own and manage the architectural roadmap, setting the vision and strategy for technology, and distilling it into successfully releasing the product on time
- Responsible for the development and delivery of the product
- Manage the engineering team on a day to day basis
- Accountable for making everyone in the engineering organization successful by fixing the bottlenecks and issues that are getting in the way of success
- Design and implement a winning organizational structure that supports maximum communications and effective execution of tech initiatives
- Work closely with VP of Product, VP of Product Ops, and VP of Marketing to define strategic future of Second Life
- Anticipate technology scale and capability challenges and communicate clear, proactive plans to address these challenges
- Build a positive work environment while moving the team beyond their comfort zone to do quality work on deadline
- Maintain rapport with existing vendor relationships
- Maintain community relationships directly with customers at various user groups

- Ability to effectively work with a culturally diverse, distributed team with remote employees across multiple time zones
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic training and experience.
Experience
- Experience stepping into established technical organizations and quickly gaining respect and methodically implementing a robust, effective development practice
- Experience with successfully building large-scale, global internet technologies in AWS
- 10+ years of experience in software development
- 5+ years experience managing teams
- Experience managing 30+ engineers
