Position Intro

Linden Lab is the creator and steward of the world’s largest, most successful, completely user-generated virtual worlds platform. Managing our own virtual economy, virtual currency exchange, and virtual goods platforms, we have some of the most interesting data and analytical challenges that exist in business today.

Primary Functions

Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Marketing, Finance, Compliance and others, supporting business decisions with data, by producing and maintaining reports and performing ad hoc data analysis using a variety of tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep expertise in Linden Lab products
  • Meet regularly with business users of data to understand their business needs
  • Create and maintain reports in Tableau, Metric Insights
  • Develop and own the last-mile of data delivery to business customers
  • Perform statistical analyses, in-depth analyses of customer activity
  • Assist in maintaining and developing ETLs
  • Represent the interests of business users to our world-class data engineering team
  • A genuine interest in both business operations and product, and a desire to apply data to improving both. The desire to use data to tell a story that is both compelling and defensible.

  • Excellent communication skills: ability to work directly with all levels of management.
  • Able to learn the language of business execs, marketers, accountants, and engineers.
  • Comfortable talking about finance and economics.
  • Proactive in helping to define and drive analysis.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, science or social-science field, or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2+ years of direct analytical experience in a professional setting.
  • Intermediate level SQL skills (multiple joins, subqueries, window functions)
  • Familiarity with Python or another data processing language.
  • Some experience in one or more traditional BI analytics stacks (i.e. can turn a request into a report / chart / visualization using a database-linked toolset other than Excel).
  • Experience with one or more data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker etc.).

Bonus skills:

  • Applied machine learning (prediction, classification and/or recommendation)
  • A/B testing techniques and tools (Optimizely etc.)
  • Understanding of micro and/or macroeconomics
