L'Atelier BNP Paribas is an independent research & foresight subsidiary of BNP Paribas Group that investigates and identifies new and emerging technology-related markets, with an intention to create solutions and IP relevant to those areas. Specifically, L’Atelier’s primary focus is on research and analysis within virtual economies, including gaming and esports, among others. Our interdisciplinary team is based in Paris.
We are seeking a talented Digital Anthropologist to add to our Paris team. He/she will study users and communities in emerging digital spaces; direct research & analysis at the intersection of technological and social change; act as a public voice; work with an interdisciplinary team; develop as a thought leader; transform the findings and insights into (multimedia) publications, and ideas for digital products and ventures. We will select high-potential domains for further investigation to anticipate new needs and opportunities, contextualise their impact, and build economic infrastructure solutions for these new markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and establish drivers of societal change within the Digital Continent: the emerging universe of users, markets, businesses, jobs, solutions and assets that exist exclusively in the digital domains
- Play a leading role in identifying, studying and engaging with user groups
- Synthesise data and observations into high-impact insights and foresight
- Build frameworks and methodologies
- Leverage compelling storytelling to transform the team's findings and insights into publications
- Work closely with partners to generate ideas for new products and ventures
- Play a supporting role in prototyping and building economic infrastructure solutions for new and emerging digital markets
What You Should Have:
The role of the Digital Anthropologist is dynamic and requires a variety of hard and soft skills:
- Fluency in English and French. Additional language skills are a plus
- Exposure to and keen interest in digital domains and communities. Digital anthropologists are typically multi-disciplinary and are able to synthesise elements of technology and social science to craft possible futures and their impact
- Background or interest in gaming and esports is highly preferred
- High level of fluency in social change
- Experience in user research
- Ability to take a systematic approach to research and create proprietary methodologies to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Keen ability to gather and analyse multiple data points and whittle them down to the most salient insights
- Articulate at communicating insights to external audiences. You can project an excitement for an idea, vision or an opportunity, and engage relevant individuals accordingly
- Entrepreneurial approach to identifying unique angles and sources of information
- Passion, flair and vision to write original, forward-looking narratives
- Evidence of traditional and non-traditional education, ideally in relevant fields like anthropology, sociology, social science of the Internet
- Additive and distinctive personality
- Strong team player
- Published. It is beneficial to have had some of your work published previously.
- Ideally, 8-10 years of professional and/or academic experience in relevant fields
