Job Description

With 14 Petabytes of data and dozens of billions of events generated every day, data at King is at the heart of the business.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join the BI Platform team who are responsible for managing and maintaining the core Business Intelligence platforms at King, assisting with development, training and optimisation.

Your role within our Kingdom

The BI Platform team use Looker as the main BI tool across King. For it to truly fit into King’s Data products stack we want to better integrate Looker with the other tools our data consumers are using.

Our team objective is to enhance and build on Looker to bridge these gaps and leverage Looker as a data platform by integrating it into Web Applications and building out APIs and SDKs that incorporate Looker workflows.

You will help develop new features and products, as well as maintaining the existing ones, working in close collaboration with users and colleagues in a fast evolving and agile environment.

Although this is a mostly a back end role you will be expected to help out with Looker based tasks and get to know the product.

Work in a highly collaborative team to devise solutions to business problems, bringing your skills and ideas into every discussion
Take ownership and responsibility for the quality of the solutions, testing them and ensuring best practices are used throughout the development process - particularly with regard to self- explanatory code, maintainability and scalability
Learn new technical skills when needed and use them to help the team achieve success
Collaborate with other teams within the Shared Tech organisation to ensure the consistent and coherent growth of our data capabilities

Skills to create thrills

Skilled Python programmer who is willing to become an expert
Experience building APIs/SDKs/Web Applications
Experience with TDD (test driven development)
Running natively in the cloud
Experience of SQL development
Willingness to learn Looker
Highly collaborative work style
Curious and inquisitive mind- set
Willing to step outside your comfort zone to broaden your skills and learn new technologies.
Comfortable working independently on complex problems with the ability to clearly communicate your ideas and solutions.
Some experience of Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Looker, Tableau or QlikView would be advantageous
Experience working in an Agile workplace
Capability in containerising workloads and running these on Kubernetes
Managing infrastructure as code
Automating builds, tests and deployments
Experience orchestrating data pipelines using Airflow
