Job Description:

King is looking for a Product Director to drive our proprietary internal game engine product, Fiction Factory, used across 14 different King games including Candy Crush Saga, and delivering gaming experiences to nearly quarter of a billion mobile game players every month. The Fiction Factory technology is made up of a highly optimised game engine run- time capable of high quality 2D and 3D mobile gaming experiences delivery across a huge range of mobile devices, a content editing tool and environment enable rapid design and development of mobile games and a content and build pipeline enabling efficient iteration of game teams and over- the- air delivery of content to mobile game players all around the world.

Because King releases new game builds every two weeks, it makes the Fiction Factory team’s focus clear: deliver better iteration time for content creators, provide a stable, powerful and up to date platform, and make sure our games continue to reach the billions of devices of our players, regardless of how powerful those devices are.

As Product Director, you will be responsible for the definition of the game engine and tools strategy so they continuously improve the game teams' productivity and focus on the problems they need to solve. You will work closely with the game teams as primary customers, aligning with their requirements as they innovate in game features to delight our players, and define and own the roadmap for evolution of the Fiction Factory solution.

You will align closely with the Fiction Engine design, engineering and support teams and operate within the wider Product Management organisation in King’s Shared Technology team. You will report into the Head of Product for Shared Technology and also contribute to the overall technology strategy of the King shared technology platform. You will also work closely with King technology partners, software and hardware vendors to ensure that the Fiction technology leverages the latest capabilities of the hardware platforms on all mobile devices.

Responsibilities:

  • Continually collect inputs and needs from the different stakeholders (game teams developers, artists and producers) and partners (UX designers and technical leadership) to create a product vision and prioritized list of problems to solve to improve the product and users’ productivity.
  • Manage the stakeholder relationship and be a customer champion into the team, ensuring that the customer perspective and impact is always prioritized. Facilitate a permanent collaboration and communication between game teams and the Fiction Factory team.
  • Evolve the product team in Fiction, identifying skills or resource gaps, aligning with peer organisations in Fiction. You will grow and mentor your team and ensure excellent alignment with Fiction team goals. You will be a strong contributor to the craft of Product Management at King
  • Work with Fiction engineering leadership to build business cases for future investments in areas of opportunity for King games. Evaluate the business impact and development cost of the planned investments.
  • Communicate roadmaps, prioritization and the development progress/delivery milestones of the product areas.
  • Ensure alignment with other product areas in King, identifying blockers or dependencies.
  • Coordinate the customer observation, product discovery and market research projects.
  • Define the roadmap of the product. Manages roadmap prioritization for the product. Identifies and defines the KPIs used to measure the business impact of the product functionality.
  • Celebrates product achievements and promotes investment opportunities to improve the product and customer experience.

Qualifications

  • You have experience and are passionate about building exceptional products for game developers and artists, and understand what a great game engine and tools that meet these needs looks like.
  • You have experience working as Product Manager/Director for products and tools targeted at game teams. You will have led a team of junior product managers, project managers or UX designers and will have demonstrated good leadership, mentorship and team alignment.
  • You have experience synthesising many inputs to produce an impact/value driven approach to prioritization of problems the product should solve.
  • You have excellent leadership and relationship building skills. You’ll be a very strong communicator and able to distill complex topics and clearly articulate benefits and values for customers, as well as being highly empathetic to their requirements and priorities.
