Kabam Vancouver is looking for a Backend Systems Lead to join our server team to support our game development.

As a Backend Systems Lead, you will design and enhance systems to handle a large number of players in a fault tolerant way. You possess a strong technical background and have a high degree of appreciation for backend systems design. You want to know everything about our current systems and find how they might be improved with users and production in mind. You will have a passion to manage and grow people and assist them in making improvements to our codebase.

You will be working with a diverse set of professionals from very knowledgeable programmers to live producers and server reliability engineers.

In this role you can expect to:

  • Design, architect, implement, document, test, and support backend systems for both web client and server-side logic.
  • Collaborate with game designers and other engineers to develop live operations tools and game features
  • Be responsible for ad-hoc projects and/or requirements as they arise
  • Work toward improving and maintaining the scalability and reliability of our game services.
  • Deal with technical debt and help refactor our legacy code base.
  • Drive coding standards and quality.
  • Integrate code from other teams
  • Be on our support rotation internally and on pagerduty.
  • Help improve our logging to enhance our alerting and debugging of production issues.
  • Manage and grow other engineers.

In order to be successful for this role, we are looking for:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Expertise in software engineering with back-end/server-side technologies
  • Strong database experience (any RDBMS or NoSQL)
  • Experience working on a RESTful API system
  • Experience in working in a mixed team environment of engineers and non-engineering professionals
  • Proficiency working with source control systems
  • Able to effectively communicate and translate between general ideas and technical practices
  • Experience dealing with scalability and performance optimization.
  • Experience in C#,Node.js
  • Experience working with Google Cloud / AWS.Experience and desire to manage and grow your team members

It will be a plus if you also have:

  • Experience in Unreal Engine 4, Unity3D, MongoDB, and Redis.
  • Practical knowledge of the iOS and Android platforms.
  • Experience in professional game production.
  • An active Github profile.
  • Strong web development experience
