Job Purpose:

We have an exciting role as an Animator to join a growing team on Old School RuneScape. Boasting millions of players across PC and mobile this game continues to grow in popularity and requires an Animator to maximize its potential. As an Animator you will be responsible for benchmarking the animation quality standard in support of the animation style. In addition, you will also be responsible for mentoring and assisting in the development of the team to hit the expected quantity and quality.

You will be pivotal in developing systems and pipelines for animation production and will help create a dynamic and characterful animation style. In this role you will have significant impact on a game from conception to completion.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Art Manager to raise quality and refine the look and feel for the project.

  • Work with Technical Art, Engineering, and other artists to develop the animation creation and integration pipeline.

  • Responsible for the delivery of benchmark quality in game animation.

  • Provide support to the team in supervising animation production/quality standards and provide feedback and critique to juniors.

  • Able to work independently when prototyping, problem solving and carrying out R&D in animation pipelines.

  • Support, promote and build good team and studio morale in an open, creative environment

  • Assist the Art Manager with delivering feedback / correspondence to outsource partners or freelancers as required.

What We're Looking For:

  • Expert working knowledge of Maya (Motion builder a plus)

  • Experience of animating for third person

  • Portfolio evidence of ‘hands on’ outstanding AAA animation using both keyframe and motion capture

  • Thorough knowledge of end to end in game animation workflow and related disciplines

  • Enough understanding of technical animation to communicate and resolve animation related issues

  • Comfortable participating in and contributing to group review and critique sessions

  • Effective time management, task prioritisation

  • Ability to break down animation requirements and provide accurate estimates for sprint and release planning purposes

  • Clear, professional interaction; communicate clearly, and concisely to team, peers, and management

  • Able to mentor and level up junior’s animator skills through teaching and mentoring

  • Practiced game or real-time product content development process and pipelines having shipped several products as a Senior Animator (portfolio evidence required)

  • Have a passion for games and understand game development processes

Desirable Requirements:

  • In depth rigging / skinning knowledge

  • Experience working on MMO/RPGs, live games/games as a service

  • Knowledge and understanding in stop motion
