Kickstart is a Government scheme aimed to help support young people back into work after the economic effects of the pandemic. It’s aimed at 16-24-year-olds who are not in education and are currently claiming universal credit.

RhizoMetric Design Ltd is a Business-to-Business technology Research & Development company that supplies numerous industry verticals including the games industry. They are looking for someone to support the development of next-gen test sets, demos, and prototypes by systematically researching games, simulations, and virtual world mechanics, economies, and eco-systems as appropriate.

The company is run by Professor Karen Cham who has 25 years in game development and 15 in games education. She is Women in Games Ambassador and annually heads up the university/industry showcase Develop: Research as part of Develop: Brighton, one of Europe’s largest gatherings of game developers in Europe.

Working remotely, she will mentor you to develop and test vertical slice demos and prototypes; understand formal Iterative design and agile development processes, and build dev-ops models that benefit current R&D projects. In this case, integrating ML/AI into browser-based image feeds.

Karen will also guide the development of your skillset, build your portfolio, and extend your work experience opportunities. She has significant experience working with neurodivergent young people and leading remote development teams.

You must have a GCSE English or equivalent, as well as a thorough hands-on knowledge of games, access to games and games platforms, though some provided. Good time management and self-discipline and the ability to meet targets unsupervised are essential.

These are entry-level posts. No work experience is needed. Application by portfolio/demos of work and personal references are acceptable as an alternative to qualifications where appropriate.

The business is registered at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9QJ but the role is remote. It is likely any face-to-face meetings that are required would be maximum of once a month and at a mutually convenient location and time.
