Mayamada is a creative manga brand featured in NEO Magazine, Mashable, Bleeding Cool and the BBC among others. We have exhibited at comic conventions across the UK and internationally.
We create manga-style comics set within our own universe: a television network with an all-animal cast of characters. Each manga title tells the story of a different show on the network.
As a Story Writer Writer Intern, your writing skills and passion for comics will help you support initiatives that include creating new storylines, fleshing out worlds and character stories, and imagining the course of future narratives. The work will also involve working on Kickstarter campaigns to launch our next volume.
Your written and verbal communication skills will allow you to work well with a range of collaborators, you will assist mayamada co-founder and writer Nigel Twumasi, artist Pinali, editors, and creatives to cooperatively craft iconic, cohesive characters and storylines that excite your team and mayamada customers around the world.
It will be your love of storytelling across various mediums, passion for the written word, and narrative skill that will position support your development within our team, and we canβt wait for you to be part of our universe.
As part of the internship, you will be working with the mayamada team, in particular co-founder Nigel Twumasi and lead manga artist Pinali to develop future stories within our universe of characters.
We are looking for interns with a positive and proactive approach to their work. Ideally, you will have an interest in anime, manga, comics, video games or Japanese culture.

Other requirements include ability to:
- Support Writer, Concept Artist, Illustrator and Editor in producing mayamada stories, including character biographies, worldbuilding detail and promotional material.
- Assist in mayamada story development with contributions such as research, brainstorming, story briefs, and test scripts.
- Work unsupervised and collaboratively with team members across varied disciplines to effectively deliver a shared creative vision.
- Explain and pitch your ideas clearly to the story team, responding positively to feedback.
- Demonstrate integrity, dependability, responsibility and accountability.
- Enthusiasm and a thorough and flexible approach to work and to personal development and life-long learning.
- Research topics and information for points of reference and ideas to use in your writing.
