The User Experience Research internship is a fantastic opportunity to be part of games user research at Insomniac Games. The intern will engage in helping the research team run research studies and evaluate results. A successful intern will end the summer with a AAA game credit on their resume and will have the opportunity to receive guidance from senior members of the team. While here, you will be mentored through the Insomniac process for conducting user research studies:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Recruit participants and identify appropriate research methodology for internal testing
Run studies from start to finish and a deliver report to the development team
Lab set up and preparation
Play content for testing (i.e. builds) and develop interview/survey questions
Observe participants and take notes while study is in progress
Evaluate results and share findings with the team
The intern will work closely with the UX Research department, learn research workflows and help improve the player's experience throughout the game.
Internship Qualifications:
Six to twelve months related experience and/or training, or students enrolled at a college or university, working toward a BS, MS, or PhD degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology, Social Sciences, Anthropology, or related field.
We will also consider recent graduates – within 12 months of graduation, when the internship begins
Intern must have strong communication skills.
Must be familiar with using Microsoft Word, Excel, Google docs, or similar products for developing reports and analyzing data.
The ideal intern is self-motivated, responsible, and highly curious about player behavior and the field of games user research.
Experience planning and running user-centered research studies
Knowledge of the strengths and shortcomings of different user-centered research and design methodologies (i.e. interviews, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, surveys, journey mapping, etc.)
Passion for playing and analyzing games
Familiarity with using Excel to generate quantitative findings
Ability to generate reports with clear findings and recommendations
Experience working in project teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with video capture software such as OBS
Experience using eye-tracking software
Familiarity with quantitative research methodologies
Familiarity with analytics software and analysis (i.e. Tableau, R)
Internship Details:
This is a paid, full-time internship.
The student must be available to intern 5 days per week for approximately 40 hours a week.
The duration of internship is flexible, but we expect at least an 8-week commitment from our interns.
This role is based in Burbank, California only.
