We are Innersloth, a small team of 5 based out of Seattle (3 Seattle employees and 2 remote). We released Among Us in 2018 and The Henry Stickmin Collection in 2020, both of which are seeing huge popularity right now, which means we need more help!

We’re looking for a front end programmer to work on Among Us, complementing our existing programming team of 2, and our external programming partners (PlayEveryWare). We would prefer to work with people who are comfortable diving into existing code bases, are able to self-lead (you will have guidance and a team lead, but as we are a small team, self motivation is important!), and are comfortable working on a game with an extremely large player-base. Among Us is available on many platforms (iOS, Android (Google Play for now), Steam, Epic, Switch) and will be on more in future. In addition, we have a detailed content roadmap, with lots of large and small tasks to be tackled!

Our existing programming team consists of Innersloth’s CEO, a front end & back end programmer, and one additional programmer who is primarily on front end. As we are a small team, we especially encourage marginalized groups and people from underrepresented backgrounds, genders, and locations to apply. Diverse voices make Innersloth better, and we strive to create a diverse and welcoming space from the ground up.

Your hard work will directly affect 100s of millions of players around the world, which can sound intimidating, but this is new for all of us, so don’t worry- it’s also really, really cool. We are a small, friendly, indie team, and you’ll get to see the direct result of your hard work on a uniquely large scale.

What we're looking for

Experience and self-motivation are extremely important for this position. Whether you’ve been working in AAA, have spent years shipping your own indie games, or have a pile of side projects you’ve worked on over the years, as long as you show an aptitude for diving into technical/programming tasks and getting them done, we want to hear from you!

To be clear, we are not currently looking for entry level programmers. We will be recruiting for junior level programmers or folks without game development experience in the future (to help grow and encourage the future of the industry), but right now we are small and compact, and need new employees to be able to hit the ground running with minimal hands-on direction.

The following points outline the experience and skills that we strongly prefer. None of these are strict dealbreakers, but reflect the type of experience we feel would lead to finding the right candidate for this position

  • 5+ years of experience working as a games programmer, in Unity
  • Familiarity of Unity physics, sounds, and rendering systems
  • We mostly use SpriteRenderers, but some MeshRenderers too
  • Excellent knowledge of C#
  • Strong bug hunting and squashing skills
  • Excellent people skills and a kind approach to working with others
  • Experience and comfort diving into an existing codebase
  • Comfortable being self-led

Fun additional things we’d like

  • An understanding of realtime multiplayer game concept
    • Client-server authority
    • Desync, lag etc
  • You’ve worked on games games on various platforms
    • Consoles
    • Mobile
    • Other PC stores
  • Unlit shader experience
  • Experience using version control (we use GitHub right now)

What you'll be doing

  • Implementing new gameplay features
  • Working with our UI artist to implement new UI
  • Fixing bugs.. So many bugs
  • Preparing builds for different platforms
  • Editor Tools creation, perhaps
  • Working with and potentially reviewing the work of external partners
  • Taking on technical challenges and finding your own solutions
  • Actively looking for and identifying process and game bottlenecks

Applying for a job during a pandemic?

All Innersloth employees are working remotely right now, and some of us are intending to be remote employees forever. We understand that this is a strange time to be applying to a new job, but we also want to reassure you that we care about your safety, comfort, and a proper work-life balance.

Because of all of that:

  • We will provide you with all the equipment you need to create your perfect workspace at home (a desk, headset, webcam, snack box, PC etc)
  • We can offer you a remote job, forever. We are loosely located in and around Seattle, but have no expectations of you moving unless you really want to, once The Situation allows. If you would like to move eventually, we’ll help!
  • We can offer you job stability. Because of the success of Among Us, Innersloth has a long financial runway, an active community, lots of plans in the pipeline, and rosy days ahead of us!

Our offer

  • Full time job from the safety of your home (as long as you are willing to work on Seattle hours, and being close-ish to us is a bonus) on whatever type of contract suits you best
  • We are comfortable working with local HR companies or creating subsidiaries over time to better support staff in other countries
  • Help relocating to Seattle if you'd like to move closer to the team once domestic and international travel restrictions allow
  • Competitive salary adjustable to the cost of living for where you’re based
  • Benefits (or in-kind), appropriate for the role. Health, retirement, vacations, etc. We’re working with external HR to get all of this set up for us at the moment
  • A guarantee that your job is safe and stable for a few years - regardless of what's happening around us, we have a very healthy financial runway.
  • A small collection of friendly, diverse workmates and partner companies.

Recruitment Process

Click the button below (you've wanted to do it for a while now, haven't you?) and apply!

  • You'll get an email from us to acknowledge receipt, and then another email to let you know if you've made it to stage 2.
  • Stage 2 will be a phone-call with 1-2 people from the team to get context on your experience, personal goals, and what you could bring to the company.
  • Stage 3 will be a deeper, more technical interview and chat with the programmers at Innersloth.
  • Then you'll get a nice job offer or a little feedback to help you grow and try again in the future. <3

Wow, you made it to the end! We really look forward to hearing from you. Please press the button below and send us your application!
