Improbable Canada is searching for an Art Tools Programmer to join the Programming team! As an Art Tools Programmer, you will design and implement powerful, intuitive, and technically robust workflows that turn our artistic vision into reality. You will work directly with technical artists to write pipelines that import the output of our procedural content engine into the formats required by Unreal. Through an in depth understanding of Unreal Engine, you will help to inform how we evolve our procedural content creation.

You will join our tight-knit team in Edmonton, and collaborate as part of our systems team to support the local studio. Behind our player experience, is a robust content pipeline - and your work on this team will have a direct impact on the quality and scope of content our players will get to experience.

Areas for Impact

  • Design and implement powerful, intuitive, and technically robust workflows
  • Work directly with technical artists to write pipelines that import the output of our procedural content engine into the formats required by Unreal
  • Inform how we evolve our procedural content creation
  • Collaborate as part of our systems team to support the local studio

What we're looking for

  • Knowledge of implementing designer and art tools.
  • Experience writing data importers.
  • Experience optimizing assets and build artefacts.
  • Knowledge of game architectures and game development paradigms (e.g. entity component systems).
  • Knowledge and working experience of game engines (e.g. Unity, Unreal, Frostbite, or CryEngine).
  • Excellent communication and team skills.
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders (e.g. producers, artists, designers).
  • Ability to establish technical requirements from creative or design-led pitches.
  • Ability to define and understand elements of game design documents and technical design documents.
  • Experience breaking down the development of a system into a number of manageable tasks.

The following would be an asset

  • A passion for procedural content pipelines.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine, or Houdini
  • Previous experience with shipping 2+ titles.
  • Previous experience developing titles for desktop or console.
  • Previous experience with application development.
  • A portfolio of projects/side projects.
