Gamers spent more than $100 billion on in-game items last year. However, $0 of that went to other players – it went directly to huge free-to-play game studios. Until now, games have only sold licences for these in-game items with highly restricted rights. At Immutable, we’re all about ownership: using blockchain technology to give players true and “immutable” ownership over the items they’ve worked so hard to acquire. This means they can trade, sell and utilize their digital items as they see fit. Alongside games, we build marketplaces and tools for these assets, so that game developers can build fully-fledged economies within their games.
Our flagship title, Gods Unchained, is seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to lead the Gods Unchained web engineering team (currently 4 engineers). This team covers both the backend of Gods Unchained (primarily written in Golang/node) and the Gods Unchained website/launcher (written in Angular) - deep knowledge of this stack is not necessarily required (though it will be useful), as long as you have fantastic engineering principles and a willingness to stretch yourself.
Your role
We build a lot of the UI for the metagame experiences (e.g. deck building, viewing your inventory, making purchases) in web technology, so this is a fantastic chance to build a technically challenging, consumer-facing and fun product at the fastest growing startup in Australia. You don’t need a background in games or blockchain for this role - you just need to be an awesome engineer who fits into our culture.
You will be an active engineer, working on both frontend and backend features, as well as guiding your team to make optimal architectural choices. In particular, one of your early projects will be adapting Gods Unchained’s launcher (currently an electron app) for mobile proportions and designs, so that Gods Unchained can launch on mobile. Working with other engineering leaders, you will make large-scale choices about the future technical strategy of Gods Unchained.
You will perform code reviews (including pull request reviews) and technical design reviews for others, and work to upskill your team as a whole.
Whilst no day is typical, you will:
*Build excellently engineered features quickly and efficiently
*Create full stack technical designs
*Review code and technical designs proposed by team members
*Lead your team from a technical perspective as well as guide and mentor them
*Develop a cohesive technical vision for the product
*Be the point of contact for other key teams during integrations
You will be joining at a critical time where you will have full ownership and accountability for web engineering in Gods Unchained. This is a critical role to our company’s success and we are looking for someone with real passion, communication skills and technical leadership.
About You
- Tech Stack on the frontend, either of Angular 2+ or React, with strong CSS/SASS skills. On the backend, either of Golang or Node.js. We will teach you anything you need to know about blockchain and game development: no prior experience required!
- 5 + years deep engineering experience as a full stack developer. You are confident creating technical designs from scratch and reviewing those produced by other engineers
- An effective manager with experience leading, coaching and mentoring, driven and high performing teams
- Product driven with a strategic mindset. You can identify underlying business objectives, limitations and risks whilst balancing speed with future maintainability and composability
- Excellent collaboration skills working with other engineering teams to achieve business outcomes. You can manage competing priorities, identifying what really matters and thrive in a start-up environment
- A combination of passion and experience when it comes to web development, with a focus on interactive and responsive design
- Good, hands-on knowledge of back-end integrations and APIs
