HB Studios is Atlantic Canada’s largest and most successful independent video game developer. We have an opportunity for a Technical Artist to join our team of developers, creators, and fans, who are passionate about the art and process involved in video game development.

As a Technical Artist, you will be a main point of contact for our art tools and technologies while working closely with Software Engineers, Artists and Animators to deliver outstanding visual results, meeting the quality and schedule expectations of the Production Team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set standards for our pipelines to improve productivity and produce high quality results
  • Work with Art and Tech Leads to design and implement production, pipelines, and workflows
  • Collaborate across departments to maintain and improve tools and scripts based on visual targets
  • Train and mentor Entry-level Artists on best practices as well company tools, techniques, and pipelines
  • Keep up to date with industry developments and explore new tools and techniques

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Technical Artist
  • Art production experience leading to at least one shipped title on PS4, XboxOne and Unity
  • Well-rounded background in art development with characters, environments, lighting, and effects
  • Character animation, skinning and rigging skills (Maya)
  • Modeling and texturing skills for characters and/or environments
  • Scripting/Coding experience (Mel, Python, LUA, C/C#, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of colour and lighting theory
  • Technical writing and traditional art skills
  • Experience in multi-platform development
  • Ability to take direction and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, creative, outside-the-box thinker

Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Passion for sport and sport gaming is a bonus
  • Experience working on both console and mobile development
  • MotionBuilder and/or Animation Experience
  • Experience with Unity/Mecanim
  • Agile/SCRUM methodology
  • Understanding of Z Brush workflow
