A little bit about the role...

We are looking for a Guides Editor with a passion for gaming and informing players about how to find X or complete Y in video games. The role is open to being remote from within the UK, with the option to travel into our office, or working full-time from within our HQ in the heart of the Manchester City Centre, depending on the successful candidate’s preferences.

As the Guides Editor you will work with the Editor-in-Chief to continuously optimise and enhance the guides content strategy. You will be a key factor in contributing to our guides content, including research, continuous analysis and optimising content.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for writing about and understanding the gaming industry, along with expertise in playing games from a multitude of genres. Experience as an editor and SEO knowledge is required.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Develop an evergreen guides content strategy, utilising data and analytics tools available to you, such as Ahrefs, Google Trends, Google Search Console, SEMRush, and more.
  • Develop a reactive and trending guides content strategy, utilising data and analytics.
  • Organise coverage of upcoming games, reaching out to PR/gaming companies in order to access codes prior to the launch of games.
  • Ensure all guides and reviews are of a high quality and SEO-optimised.
  • Implement feedback received by the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Communicate openly and actively with the rest of the editorial team.
  • Mentor your staff, giving them feedback where necessary.
  • Analyse and dive into the analytical tools such as Google Search Console, Google Trends, AHRefs and Google Analytics to check performance and optimise content.
  • Work with the Video team to ensure video guides are added to articles, to the highest quality possible.
  • Edit and publish content on both the website and occasionally social media.
  • Keep up-to-date with the rapidly evolving landscape of gaming.
  • Sub-edit & fact-check pieces of content where applicable.
  • Abide by the Style Guide, ensuring all pieces of content follow the guidelines.
  • Understand and ensure all content complies with media law and industry ethical guidelines.
  • Ensure that every day has fresh content - this may include scheduling weekends, bank holidays, and Christmas.
  • Use innovation to identify new ways of providing content to our audiences.
  • Research and aggregate regular daily and weekly content.
  • Build a calendar of relevant gaming events (including release dates), and ensure coverage.
  • Manage your team, and ensure they are content, happy, and appreciated.

Duties

On a day-to-day basis, you will be required to source and delegate guides and review content for your team. You will also ensure to update articles, guides, and SEO pieces to ensure that they are relevant and high-ranking.

You will spend a portion of your day scouring the internet for relevant content, using sourcing tools, building a list of evergreen content that needs to be covered, and adding to it regularly.

You will also ensure that you are in regular communication with your staff, as well as the social and video team. You may also be required to attend meetings with the senior leadership team.
