JOB DESCRIPTION

From helping identify new revenue and cost-containment opportunities, to creating relationships that maximize the value of BTN’s extensive rights, the Big Ten Network is currently seeking a Director of Business Development to join their team in Chicago. You will work hand in hand with the VP of Business Operations, the SVP of Programming & Digital Media and the BTN Executive Team to drive new and existing business initiatives for the company. The cross-functional role will work closely with sales, digital media, marketing, and production to establish and maintain third-party relationships with strategic partners and key vendors. As the Director of Business Development, you will work closely with the department heads to identify new revenue and cost-containment opportunities. Additionally, you will help to define the overall digital business strategy in collaboration with the SVP of Programming & Digital Media, Digital Content Team and Digital Marketing Team. Simply, you will play an integral role at the Big Ten Network.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive revenue from BTN’s portfolio of digital rights
    • Establish and manage partnerships with the social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)
    • Negotiate and close third-party content license agreements
    • Research and identify new technology vendors
    • Assist in product development and marketing of BTN’s direct-to-consumer product (BTN+)
  • Work closely with the sales and sponsorship team to ideate, present and assist in the execution of custom sponsorship opportunities on BTN linear/digital platforms and in the experiential/events space
  • Help maximize digital ad revenue through programmatic and third-party relationships
  • Serve as a liaison between the sales team and the social media platforms
  • Support the marketing and digital marketing teams by providing business expertise in the areas of (a) BTN On-Campus program; (b) eSports; and (c) sponsored events (i.e. BTN Big 10K)
  • Assist the remote and studio production teams in the areas of: (a) sponsorship execution and (b) key vendor research and negotiation
  • Work on miscellaneous internal projects, including outlining the business development narrative for budget presentations, participating on digital task forces within BTN/Fox, analyzing digital analytics, etc.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in the marketplace (digital media trends, business models, social networking, new technology companies) and be able to present this information to both internal and external parties

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Position requires a bachelor’s degree in business, sports management and/or media studies
  • A minimum of 8 years of working in business development, business operations and/or sales, preferably in the sports media sector
  • Position requires a deep understanding of sports rights in both the linear and digital spaces, as well as a strong knowledge of linear and digital content distribution
  • Must have superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Position requires sound math skills and strong financial acumen
  • General computing skills essential along with strong knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Requires assertiveness and ability to work independently, excellent organizational and operational skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple demands simultaneously under deadline conditions
