First Contact Entertainment is seeking a well-rounded Lead Environment Artist to join our Art Department. The ideal candidate has experience working on AAA titles, has a passion for gaming, and has the ability to create immersive and story-driven environments & character designs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead, mobilise and develop an art team within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment; define and track the schedule for the team, manage and mentor team members, and be a key player in the artistic style of the project.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years of experience creating high quality visual effects for film or games
- Strong leadership, team and people management skills
- Ability to interpret and transform abstract ideas into compelling effects
- Develop performance and expertise within their team while furthering their own knowledge and expertise
- Proven collaborator for insource/outsource partners
- Identify and set up best practices
- Find relevant solutions to problems encountered in their work
- Rapidly integrate strategic changes given by the Art Director
- Keep open channels of communication across their team/collaborating studio/ outsource

- Produce schedules alongside the Art Director/Producer
- Identify risks within the schedule and suggest changes;
- Delegate and assign work to team members using JIRA or other tracking tools used on the
- project
- Manage the onboarding process for new starters in their team
DESIRED SKILLS
- Create, manage and optimize 3D assets and textures
- Collaborate with artists, programmers and animators to iterate, polish and deliver projects
- Optimize assets to fit design and technical constraints
- Maintain and adhere to a consistent art style as required by the Art Director
- Prioritise, plan and organise their own work and their teams work in conjunction with the Art Director and Producer
- Provide creative and technical assistance
- Develop, update and optimize workflows and tool chains
- Cultivate an organized and disciplined workflow
- Review and deliver work in accordance with the project's artistic direction and deadlines
- Hold regular team updates with the Art Director
- Manage individual team member’s performance and progress
- Report to the Art Director on the progress of work and any issues relating to the project
- Facilitate training initiatives for the team as required
- Conduct any ad-hoc tasks when required
STAND OUT WITH BONUS FEATURES SUCH AS
- Experience creating Photogrammetry scenes
- Experience creating materials using Substance Designer, 3D painting packages to paint models, and Photogrammetry
- Experience creating block-outs for outsourcing
- Research and develop experience for next generation game development
