We are Fatshark

We are a Swedish game development studio located in Södermalm, Stockholm. With about 150 experienced and skilled employees we are developing and publishing titles for both consoles and PC. Our most recent game is the critically acclaimed title Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and we are also working on our next game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.

The role

We are looking for a Technical Director to join us in the development for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and lead the technical direction of the live game, post launch.

As Technical Director, you will be responsible for the technical quality of the game. You will take part in project planning, working on process and documentation, coach leadership in our feature teams, and work closely with everyone involved in the production - programmers, producers, designers, artists, and the game direction team. You will also be the main point of contact and stakeholder toward our central technology teams.

What we offer

Here at Fatshark, we do what we love most: design high-profile games for PCs and consoles, with the passion and freedom of being indie. We offer you:

  • A playful, friendly and inclusive work place
  • Hands-on production environment with an emphasis on cooperative/multiplayer games
  • Opportunities for personal growth with varied projects, experienced co-workers and recurring hack weeks
  • Developing games with our own engine - Stingray
  • Regulated flex time and paid overtime
  • Occupational pension
  • Yearly health benefits (for gym membership & more)
  • Yearly bonus program
  • Office located in central Stockholm

Responsibilities:

Planning

  • You make sure the technical direction supports the project goals and vision
  • You work with our development teams to plan for practical and sustainable development
  • Help teams with their technical estimates

Leadership

  • Ensure team members are on-boarded on our general technical direction
  • You make sure to delegate tasks and responsibilities to build the support structure you need

Process

  • You maintain the process of technical reviews and signoffs
  • Keep track of risks, pitfalls, hidden costs, and technical debt throughout the development of the project

Communication

  • You are responsible for aligning our features teams on the technical direction of the project
  • You keep in regular touch with producers, stakeholders, and the leadership team to update them on critical technical information as well as the technical state of the game

Required qualifications

  • You have previous experience as a technical director, associate technical director, or lead programmer in game development
  • At least three years of professional work experience in the games industry, in a technical role, where you have shipped games
  • You understand the fundamental technologies of games - from game engines to the tools that build them. And the process of how we build, package, and deploy games
  • A strong academic background in a relevant technical field, such as computer science, software engineering, or mathematics.
  • You need to be a team player - flexible and solution-oriented. Successful leadership at Fatshark relies on being communicative, supporting, and collaborative. Having an authoritarian attitude does not lead to happy, performant teams at Fatshark

  • You have experience working with live service games with a large number of end-users
  • An interest in Warhammer!
