Today, there are five games available for purchase: Exploding Kittens, Bears vs Babies, You’ve Got Crabs, Throw Throw Burrito, and On a Scale of One to T-Rex, as well as an Exploding Kittens mobile app that is one of the top 30 premium games on both iOS and Android.

Exploding Kittens is seeking to hire a full-time Vice President, Finance & Accounting to provide strategic management of the finance and accounting functions of a rapidly growing organization. The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of experience in finance and accounting, including three years in a management role, have a CPA (or eligibility), extensive knowledge of GAAP, and strong analytical skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with members of senior management on a variety of strategic objectives driving the company, and be active in company board meetings
  • Direct a team that runs all accounting functions of the company
  • Oversee financial reporting to internal stakeholders and investors including timely monthly, quarterly, and yearly closes, as well as ad hoc requests of the accounting team
  • Oversee financial forecasting, budgeting, reporting, analysis, and other compliance matters
  • Oversee all tax and VAT matters including sales & use taxes, foreign VAT, income and corporate taxes, and nexus analysis, and make related recommendations to senior management
  • Oversee financial systems and related upgrades or implementations, including the implementation and oversight of an ERP system
  • Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors; manage relationships with the company’s independent auditors, bankers, insurance providers, and other third-party vendors; review, negotiate, and manage contracts with third-party vendors; and manage the company’s risk management procedures
  • Work with external advisors to comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements and study existing and new legislation, anticipate future legislation, enforce adherence to requirements, file required financial reports, and advise senior management on needed actions
  • Maximize return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems; protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls; and protect operations by keeping all financial information and plans confidential
  • Maintain finance and accounting staff by recruiting, selecting, training, counseling, and managing employees, as well as by planning, monitoring, and appraising job results

Job Requirements

  • CPA certified or eligible strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, or related field (ideal candidate has an MBA)
  • Minimum eight years of experience in finance and accounting, including three years in a management role and preferably in a related industry (consumer products, CPG, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and ability to liaise with relevant operational teams (e.g., sales, production, distribution, etc.)
  • Work comfortably in a variety of ERP systems, and experience building an ERP system from the ground up
  • In-depth understanding of the sales administration process
  • Strong ability to identify opportunities and transform them into results
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, numerical abilities, and a problem-solving attitude
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • High service orientation, hands-on mentality, and attention to detail
  • Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Competency in relevant software such as Google Drive, Excel, as well as accounting platforms such as QuickBooks
