Started by former Xbox game designer Elan Lee and The Oatmeal’s founder Matt Inman, Exploding Kittens and its family of games recreates game night for a humorous and fun person-to-person experience. Today, there are seven games available for purchase: Exploding Kittens, Bears vs Babies, You’ve Got Crabs, Throw Throw Burrito, Throw Throw Burrito: Extreme, On a Scale of One to T-Rex, and Poetry for Neanderthals, as well as an Exploding Kittens mobile app that is one of the top 30 premium games on both iOS and Android.

The Digital team at Exploding Kittens is responsible for bringing Exploding Kittens games and IP to the Digital space. We are looking to hire an experienced Technical Director with hands on game development experience. As a key leader in the newly formed Digital team, you will be an integral part of our success, responsible for both building out our team and capabilities as well as working with the VP of Digital to prioritize existing opportunities and identify new ones. The ideal candidate will not just be directing and reviewing code or providing their opinions on our games, they will also be directly involved in producing and executing well-written code.

HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Lead our Rapid Disposable Prototyping efforts, ensuring we can quickly decide which of our many ideas we should focus on
  • Determine our internal vs external software engineering needs and, in conjunction with our leadership team, help create a strategy to enable us to level up our business quickly and efficiently
  • Proactively identify technical risks and issues for the team
  • Understand and articulate the pros and cons of technical and design choices, enabling the team to provide the best player experiences on a variety of platforms
  • Attract, retain and mentor technical talent as the team grows
  • Work closely with various stakeholders, including our physical game development team and our founders, to bring their visions to life

WHAT WE NEED:

  • 8+ years of game development experience with at least one shipped Live Services game
  • BS Computer Science degree or equivalent experience, MS is a plus
  • 4+ years of experience managing other engineers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to reach both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Broad knowledge of current game development technologies
  • Passion for games, both digital and physical
