The Esports Centre, here at the University of Warwick, is a state-of-the-art facility capable of supporting the best players as well as educating the next generation of esports talent. Our fully modular facility is capable of doing this both in-situ in the Junction building or on-the-road, when we take all our kit out to the local community. This year, we will be working with Warwick County Council and Coventry City Football Club to deliver life-changing projects to students and young people. We are looking for passionate esport enthusiasts to support with the delivery of these projects from February to August 2022. As part of your application, in your covering letter, you need to explain your passion for esports and give examples of where you have worked with young people, schools, and/or on esports or similar sporting events. Please let us know the min. and max. number of hours you are available to work each week.

Shift length: 3 or 6 hours during the day (must be available to work between 10am and 4pm at least one day a week)

Positions available: Maximum of 5 team members

Duties and responsibilities

What you will be doing:

  • Supporting visiting schools, leading talks/classes/activities about esports in the schools. Such as: internet awareness workshops, basic video game coaching, production tutorials.
  • Providing event support as part of any packages that the centre delivers with internal or external organisations.
  • Troubleshooting any issues with the computers, games, or software with support of our consultants and other Esports Centre staff.
  • Being a first point of contact for the users of the space and the Centre’s operational staff, facilitating relationships with the local community. Actively advocating all esports activity, from greeting customers and explaining what esports is, to facilitating and giving tours to sponsors.
  • Taking payments and monitoring the users of the space, ensuring the safety of the kit and a smooth user experience for the players.

Skills and experience

Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexibly, in different locations when needed
  • Strong time management and punctuality skills
  • Good knowledge of computer hardware and peripherals
  • Positive attitude and good people skills with hands-on experience of teaching, coaching, mentoring, running events, conferences or tournaments
  • Enthusiasm for esports, sports, or games and able to explain esports to new users
  • Comfortable explaining games and technology to new users
  • Self-motivated
  • Currently registered student at the university
  • Willing and able to be DBS checked (by the university)

Preferred:

  • Ambition to pursue esports as a career
  • Knowledge of stream production
  • Any experience of esports events, as an organiser or a player etc
  • Experience building and/or programming computers
  • Active member of Warwick Esports society
  • Experience as a Warwick Esports society executive, coordinator, or helper

Location

Esports Centre (Junction Building, Campus) and/or on-the-road within Coventry, Warwickshire, or Birmingham
