As the VP of Brand and Communications at ESL, you will hold a global strategic and operational responsibility to lead, drive and manage the global brand and communications function, including brand strategy, brand management, brand measurement, public and media relations, corporate communications, corporate social responsibility, internal communications, crisis management and external affairs for ESL. You will be leading a team of professionals and external agencies, and will be accountable for leading, defining, advising, planning and delivering an integrated brand and communications approach for the ESL brand, sub-brands and products. The main objective is to continue establishing ESL Brand as the category brand in esports growing the brand to become one of the largest brands in the world. You will also need to ensure that ESL’s brand and communication strategy is positively and accurately representing the company’s purpose, brand values, products, services and image to our targeted audiences and is in line with our operational strategy, as well as our stakeholders’ requirements.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Operational responsibilities:

  • Lead ESL Brand and Communications team at ESL coordinating its strategy development and execution
  • Drive brand value, awareness, preference, health and consideration
  • Manage Brand agencies relationship to develop strategy and programs to develop the brand
  • Lead the Corporate Social Responsibility brand and external communications plan development and execution with ESL key partner brands and agencies
  • Direct creation and deployment of strategic and high impact communication campaigns in PR
  • Guide the development (with the team and/or agencies) and selection of the most appropriate tools, approaches, events and means such as PR, radio, TV, print, online, etc. to communicate ESL’s brand purpose, positioning ESL as the leading esports brand
  • Act as ESL’s spokesperson, managing all media relations and ESL’s presence in the media landscape
  • Shape the brand and communication strategy in line with business strategy, internal and external stakeholder requirements, while managing investor relations in coordination with ESL’s main shareholder MTG
  • Engage with key stakeholders such as executives, HR or other stakeholders to prepare plans for brand and communication topics
  • Lead and coordinate ESL international offices in the execution of the global brand and communications strategy
  • Drive the internal communications agenda to deliver high quality and relevant internal communications to the business
  • Coordinate and manage the selection of executives to external speaking opportunities and align them to the company’s strategy and purpose
  • Sponsor the development and implementation of transformation change projects including implementation of standard communication processes, policies, best practices and communication tools
  • Set and manage the brand and communication budget and make investment decisions
  • Travel to all relevant events (up to 40% of time)

Management responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop the Headquarters’ brand and communications team; dotted line to all regional professionals
  • Manage performance review cycles, including setting personal and professional development goals and planning individual development actions
  • Provide performance feedback to the team
  • Ensure appropriate talent selection, organization and leadership for the Brand & Communications function in ESL
  • Manage world class agencies for brand and communications development
  • Manage communications teams' staffing for and at events

Skills & Requirements

Must have’s:

  • MSc./Master degree in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience in Brand and Communications
  • Experience in leading creative agencies into award winning creative content and developing a corporate communications department
  • Excellent presentation skills and experience in representing a large company at public events
  • Confident with using all communications tools from traditional media to digital
  • Experienced people leader, skilled at navigating through complex matrix organizations
  • Ability to deal, influence and negotiate with C-level executives on a daily basis
  • Has helicopter view and understands the impact of specific decisions across an organization
  • Proficiency in English language
  • Self-starter with a can-do attitude and strong sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Ability to perform well under stress and work across several time-zones

Nice to have:

  • Experience in Game and Tech industry
  • Other European languages besides English
