Motive QA (Montreal ) is looking for an Systems Associate Quality Designer to join an established, experienced team of working on a AAA title in development at EA Montreal.

This is an opportunity plan and drive the quality and planning of tech systems on a New IP product being developed at Motive Montreal by working with the QA, Technical, Design, and Production groups. This person will act as a liaison between the QA team and multiple teams including development, Core Tech, release engineers, and Quality Engineering. They will ensure a seamless end user experience is delivered in the final product, and will assist in the planning and reporting of tools, stability and automation for the project. Key activities will be systems and tech analysis with a focus on game performance, stability, automation, providing both objective and subjective feedback, identifying and mitigation of risks and input on tool creation.

This position is integral to ensuring the team is focused on providing the strongest end to end coverage and experience for EA's players, and to help EA deliver on its commitment to putting Players First.

What the Systems Associate Quality Designer will do in Motive:

  • Coach and mentor internal and external QA teams, assisting them in the resolution of complex problems and growing their skills and knowledge from a technology and game systems point of view.
  • Develop working relationships with senior members of the development, production and design teams by driving a higher quality player experience through tasks such as feature planning, analyzing internal data/player data, and feature/design reviews.
  • Propose and drive solutions to problems with minimal supervision from senior leadership/management.
  • Understand past and similar iterations of products or services, perform research and analysis, use data and metrics, report on findings, and provide meaningful insights.
  • Support Development groups dealing with core technologies, systems and tools.
  • Collaborate and Drive best practices across the franchise, and share experience across multiple studios.
  • Support identification of technical solutions and automation opportunities.
  • Author tool and game automation to support workflows and testing.
  • Author technical briefs based on user stories, advocating for QA peers during the development of tools and systems.
  • Understand the product, participate in playtest experiences to drive player first feedback.
  • Effectively report progress and status through regular email or face-to-face communication with appropriate managers and other stakeholders.

Who You Are

  • A passion for games and player-first mentality.
  • Experience with game engines and systems
  • 3+ years of applicable work experience working in an embedded, integrated product team.
  • Ability to critically evaluate design, art, and economy that influence player behavior, with the ability to compile data points into a cohesive, consumable, and actionable summary to senior stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data driven product design and decision making.
  • Experience working in a live service development model (i.e. sprints, continual releases, content deployments, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of AAA software/game development, including both agile and waterfall methodologies.

Preferred Skills And Knowledge

  • Familiarity with SQL
  • JSON
  • Excel
  • Selenium scripting/Web Automation
  • Background in scripting, programming, visual scripting or modding is a plus
  • Experience working with game engines or editors
  • Equivalent knowledge or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (Computer Science, Computer Engineering is a plus)
