We are looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our Canadian Payroll Team for a 6-month contract. The EA Canada Payroll team processes payroll for approximately 2800+ employees in 5 Provinces across Canada. You will have a flexible outlook and provide general administration coverage and overall support to the team during a planned system conversion (i.e. North American Payroll Project).

Responsibilities will include:

  • Back-fill support to Payroll Manager and Payroll Supervisor for the duration of the contract
  • Processing leaves on a bi-weekly basis
  • Review current leave process, recommend and help implement a new workflow
  • Respond to employee, partner and governmental inquires
  • Collaborate with our business partners
  • Process a full-cycle bi-weekly payroll for 2800+ employees, across Canada, using ADP PaySpecialist
  • Verify and process new hires, transfers, promotions and other data changes imported from Workday
  • Accurately administer employee changes such as RRSP, ESPP, banking, tax.
  • Create/update excel files and workbooks for import into ADP
  • Process terminations and issuing ROE’s
  • Monitor errors and issues for metrics
  • Calculate compensation and other manual payments
  • Monitor and ensure compliance to employment standards and company policies
  • Review, recommend, lead, and participate in process improvements, to eliminate inefficiencies and automate
  • Work with auditors whenever necessary
  • Reporting and remitting government payments such as WCB, WSIB, EHT and Federal/Provincial Taxes
  • Process taxable benefits such as Gifts and Awards, ESPP, SOP and RSU’s
  • Balance CRA accounts
  • Prepare adhoc reports upon request
  • Help with Payroll G/L account reconciliations
  • General filing, photocopying and other administrative tasks

Skills and Knowledge

  • Focus on customer service and delivering a positive customer experience
  • Ability in managing priorities and deadlines
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll processes, computer systems, and MS Office programs
  • Working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act and Regulations, Human Rights Legislation and Canada Revenue Agency taxation rules is required

Selection Criteria

  • 3+ years payroll experience
  • Experience with ADP PaySpecialist
  • Quebec payroll an asset
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • CPA PCP designation or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
