Frostbite is EA's state-of-the-art multi-platform game development engine, powering games such as Battlefield, FIFA, Madden, Plants vs. Zombies, Need for Speed, Anthem, and Star Wars Battlefront II.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager for the Procedural and Meshes Product Area of Frostbite.
The mission of the Procedural and Meshes team is to develop state-of-the-art procedural tools and workflows to help game teams around the world build bigger and better games.
What you will do as a Frostbite Procedural Senior Software Engineering Manager
Reporting to a Frostbite Director of Engineering, you will manage the Procedural and Meshes Product Area, a culturally diverse and geographically distributed (Canada, UK, Romania) team of software engineers and support roles structured into 5 teams working on a range of technologies such as terrain editing, visual scripting, integrating with external DCCs, automatic mesh processing, level editing.
Responsibilities
- Hiring manager - You hire the right talent and onboard new team members
- Software Engineering Leader - You know how to develop quality software and know if you are on track to do that with the current plan/work.
- You will work in distributed/remote development across multiple locations and manage people remotely.
- You know how to get the best out of a diverse team of people even when delivery pressure is high.
- You will leverage contractors and vendors to help the team scale.
- You lead your team to accomplish agreed-upon commitments including features and performance measures
- You coach and grow individuals by providing positive and constructive feedback that matters
- You coach the team to increase collaboration, code quality, and best practices
- You create a learning culture to grow the team's ability to sustainably achieve the teams goals
- You promote discussions to help the team to make decisions
- You monitor workload and coach team members on handling stress
- You recognize efforts that contribute to the team and the business
We're looking for
- Leadership experience in a high-tech company
- Recent experience in C++ or C# development
- 8+ years leading software teams
- Good knowledge of different models of software development lifecycles
- Good knowledge of collaborative tools such as the Atlassian toolchain
- Someone understanding the value of a healthy work environment
Professional interactions expected
- Report to the Sr Director of Engineering
- Work with the TD of the Product Area to ensure that production work has a design and that any local and global architecture effects are understood.
- Work with QV to ensure that we have a clear testing strategy for all current and developing technology, including a clear understanding of benchmarking, code coverage, and working together on root cause analysis.
- Work with the Program & Product management team to help build solid plans for the next iteration and track the progress of commitments for this quarter
- Manage directly Individual Contributors as well and Engineering Managers
