We are searching for a Group Technical Director to lead our Quality Engineering teams across multiple AAA game studios. The Group TD will be responsible for building and leading a team of Technical Directors and software engineers in multiple studios, who will play a key role in increasing predictability and reliability of our game development. This team will identify, develop, and deploy tools and practices which increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our development and quality verification activities. EAโ€™s goal is to deliver the highest possible quality experiences to our players and our QV practices are critical to meeting that goal.

The Group Technical Director is expected to advance the discipline of EAโ€™s quality verification in software development, testing and system engineering through large scale automation and data by creating a strategic vision of the entire software development lifecycle for our console titles and working with studio leadership and executive to align this vision with their needs.

Proven experience in leading software engineers and delivery from architectures through software design, implementation and testing, to quality engineering best practices is required.

The role will report directly to the Head Of Technology for Quality Verification and Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create technical strategies to ensure effective QA engagements across multiple groups and projects.
  • Guide the quality development discipline forwards as part of the global Quality Technology Council and the worldwide Quality Verification organization.
  • Participate in the Quality Verification planning and strategies for your respective projects and teams
  • Ensure the excellence of our embedded and in-sourced tools development services.
  • Oversee all project dependencies, risks, and critical paths.
  • Promote achievement of the Quality Verification teamโ€™s business goals and develop policies for sharing software, technical innovation, business processes and other intellectual property.
  • Help create a strong technical community by developing excellent relationships with technical peers in game development teams and other groups throughout EA studios.
  • Work with other team leaders to manage change.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor Technical Directors and software engineers on the team.
  • Recruit and retain great people to the team and company.


  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or Software Engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of 10 years of technology industry experience, including roles at the senior leadership level within technical organizations.
  • A minimum of 4+ years of industry technical experience working with console games.
  • Knowledge of game application technologies, spanning client, server, live operations, and infrastructure systems.
  • Game development contributions that demonstrate the above requirements with a high level of proficiency.
  • Balance technical, team, product, project, and business requirements for successful outcomes.
  • Experience leading technical teams that are distributed across multiple studios and time zones.
  • Change management, experience adapting/changing status quo and traversing changes with people, products, and processes.
  • Experience with multi-studio development.
  • Experience developing new talent.
  • Able to travel.

Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with Video Game development
  • Experience with AI and ML in the context of test automation a strong plus.

    • Ability to travel
