Summer 2021 SIG Leaders
About Us: The EGD Collective is a nonprofit organization that creates community, equity, and leaders of character through games. We are dedicated to removing barriers in games communities and making the industry a more accessible academic and career opportunity for all. We serve 2500+ students across the US and Canada - providing free events, educational programming, and support systems to help students navigate through academic, financial, and emotional crises.
About the Position: SIGs, or Special Interest Groups, are sub-communities of EGD that run events and programming for the community. SIG leaders are responsible for cultivating the community within their SIG, and contributing to 3 events during the summer (June, July, August). These can be whatever you wish to run: workshops, tournaments, panels, game nights, etc. At the end of the summer, you will be able to decide if you would like to continue to volunteer for the 2021-22 academic year.
You are not expected to have much experience coming in, just the ability to dedicate 1 day for 5 hours a week (either 1-6PM ET or 5-10PM ET) and to passively participate in our Discord community/answer questions. As we are a student-focused organization, students and recent grads are encouraged to get involved (as well as career-changers!). For the Tech SIG or Art & Animation SIG, you will need enough proficiency in a skill or related software program to be able to teach it.
The positions are structured in a way meant for students and young professionals to learn community management and event skills, but are open to anyone interested in volunteering with a gaming nonprofit organization (as long as you are ok with student co-workers!).
SIGs for this summer include:
- Tech (programming, software design, etc)
- Art & Animation
- MaGes (marginalized genders)
- League of Legends
- Super Smash Bros
In your application, please indicate which SIG(s) you would prefer to volunteer with! Current university students may opt to increase their time commitment to 15 hours a week for internship credits.
