Job Overview

The development managers role is to support the studio needs, in terms of “what comes next”.

An essential link between Production, who hold the vision for the game, and Development, who are tasked with delivering on that vision.

Your focus is not on the tasks of today, but on the resources, team development and challenges that we need to be ready for tomorrow.

The Development Manager can work with and communicate with key stakeholders, understanding the intention, and able to turn that intention into high levels plans.

This is a role, where you are not merely following process and best practices, you have to be able to establish and drive best practice. You will need to use your experience to coach, mentor and lead a team, while also being able to build sound, effective working relationships with Discipline Directors, leads and team members.

A team player with in-depth knowledge of game development cycles.

We are looking for candidates that can demonstrate being driven, determined, focused on finding solutions, influential and the ability to forge strong relationships within the organization.

Reports To

The role reports to the Senior Development Manager.

What will you do?

  • Responsible for mapping out future development needs and collaborating with colleagues to convert high level discussion points to actionable briefs.
  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide management escalation and prioritization reports.
  • Coach, lead and mentor the project management team, and build effective working relationships across the studio.
  • Review information provided by the Project Management and Production teams, and drive the project, constantly look for improvements in efficiency, effectiveness and quality goals.
  • Support Senior Development Manager identify, mitigate and drive risk / issues toward resolutions.
  • Ensure goals and objective communication runs smoothly between development management and Studio Management.
  • Resolve issues, managing competing demands and priorities within the team in a collaborative way, ensuring team satisfaction and motivation.

What are we looking for?

  • You have extensive games industry experience.
  • Accustomed to working in rapidly changing environments.
  • Excellent knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with broad cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Has project management experience and also understands how to prioritise and drive quality, not just timelines.
