Keeping Discord functioning smoothly for millions of users with hundreds of developers iterating on our systems every day is no small feat. Our Platform & Services team works on essential systems that are used across the entire architecture to keep our service running smoothly for our users. We also partner with other teams throughout the organization to identify their pain points operating systems at scale and dive deep to address them. You will report to the Engineering Manager of the Platform & Services team.

What you'll do
- Participate in building and running a distributed, worldwide, real-time system that processes millions of events per second
- Build important primitives that empower the operation of services across Discord and partnering to educate other teams in how to use them
- Work with a modern tech stack built on GCE with Elixir, Python 3, and Rust
- Architect efficient and creative solutions to grow our backend systems
- Operate essential 24x7 production services
Required experience
- 4+ years experience building scalable backend systems
- Experience working on, and deploying, large-scale systems in Python, Go, Elixir/Erlang, or other similar languages.
- Experience debugging a live production system
- Can take a high-level goal and provide shippable code
Bonus Points
- Experience with Python or Rust
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Experience with DevOps tools like Terraform and clouds like Google Cloud Platform
- Experience with SRE best practices; monitoring, alerting, incident response
