Dexerto is looking for a talented and experienced full-time Senior Writer based in Australia or New Zealand (You will need to work AEST hours, 10am-6pm).

This is an exciting new role for Dexerto, the world’s largest esports media network, as you’d be the senior member of our all-new Australian team. With plans to expand, there is plenty of room for growth, too.

So, we are looking for an esports and gaming culture enthusiast who has considerable writing experience. As part of a small team, you’ll need to take responsibility for your content, ensuring it meets our editorial standards and helps maintain and grow the site.

Not only will you need to source and write compelling news stories about the broad range of esports that we cover – including Call Of Duty, Overwatch, Apex Legends, CS:GO, Fortnite, and League Of Legends – but you’ll also be expected to produce entertaining pieces about the world’s leading streamers and internet personalities. As the senior member of the team, you’ll also need to oversee the content of junior members of staff, so you’ll require strong attention to detail and be comfortable with delegating and offering advice to help improve standards.

You will need to be a great writer, who is able to turn around a high volume of snappy, compelling news stories to tight deadlines. We’re looking for a creative individual who is able to bring fresh feature ideas to Dexerto, and while we welcome individuality, you will need to make sure that any editorial on dexerto.com is in keeping with our style guide.

You will also have to share our content on our social platforms, so you need to have experience of using social media to drive traffic to a website. You will also be expected to ensure social posts by the team meet with our standards, regularly offering feedback to help improve copy.

Knowledge of SEO and analytics is desirable as you will be using data to inform editorial decisions that you make.

Basic photoshop skills will also be required to create thumbnails for stories and social.

Requirements

  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of esports, gaming culture and its current trends
  • Previous writing role on a website
  • Creative ability – able think of feature ideas and suggest news stories that will resonate with our audience
  • A snappy and compelling writing style
  • Able to write to short deadlines under pressure
  • Comfortable with giving and accepting feedback
  • Have a keen attention to detail – can spot grammatical errors and fact check.
  • Personable with good communication skills
  • Is confident with social media
  • SEO knowledge desirable
  • Website analytics knowledge desirable
  • Able to work full-time hours (40) without other education or job commitments
  • Be committed to good time management
  • Own computing equipment that can run Photoshop and be able to use it competently
